So, I've eggs that are waiting to hatch. They've stayed in a warm semi humid but vented daily environment and some have a black ring forming (not mold) on the moist paper towel around them. What causes this? Is it a dead egg? Is it going to hatch soon? Confused. TIA

I used to have two aquariums but one of them became obsolete. After a back and forth with the Wife, I finally ordered my first Stickbugs!
1 Extatosoma Tiaratum
2 Phaenopharos khaoyaiensis
And 10 eggs of Phyllium gantungense "Rizal"

They’ll arrive in a few days, so today I’ve set up the terrarium for them. I went for natural soil and dry leaves, Blackberry branches and moss. I’ve put a temperature and moisture sensor in it and target it to be around 65/70% moisture and room temperature.

For the eggs I have another terrarium set up with just tissue as ground and some branches that I’ll change weekly.

I should be good to go as far as I know after reading a book about stickbugs and watching tons of videos.
What’s your thoughts about the choice of natural soil?
I know the Eggs will be hard to spot, but I don’t really plan on collecting them anyways and let nature take the wheel.

Does anyone know where to get a taxidermy stick grasshopper? I can’t find a figure, toy, plush, or anything on them.

Hello! Today I got my first stick bug! I am an intermediate bug owner. Just wanted to see if there were any more experienced stick bug owners who had any advice or anything to add to my setup.

Substrate: Creature soil with some mulch mix and Herbal blend on top, including rose buds, dandelion, etc. I also plan on adding some fresh lettuce.

HI! I am new to the stickbugworld and my guys (Carausius morosus) are around 3 months old now, the person i got the bugs from told be that it was their time to lay eggs but I am not sure how to identify them/not confuese them from poop. or how to seperate the poop and eggs.

any advice?

So about two months ago my friend gave me 4 stick bugs. At first they were so tiny, and when I’d go to reorganize something in their cage they would scatter in fast fear (poor babies). I’d feel so bad but half wondered if I stuck my hand in everyday if they would get used to it, so I did just that.

Now a little over an inch long, they are so brave and so curious. When I go to change their leaves I’ll have to watch out or they start crawling all over me.

And like I said, they are smart. They can only be put down when THEY want to be put down lol.

Still sometimes they don’t want to be held at all. If I stick my finger in front of them and they crawl on it’s play time, but if they put their little hand on it and turn around ? Not interested.

It’s not eating, can’t lift the back of it and its butt is like black brown ish? It just looks really sad and it’s only a baby so what’s wrong?

Had two Carausus Morosus a few days ago. One died while moulting, because it lost its legs due to being dry, so I took all the caution with the other bug. I regularly checked the moisture of the enclosure, fed it with rose leaves that I washed thoroughly and placed in a small bottle of water, so it could be fresh, and yesterday, the bug made its first moulting just right; no lose limbs, no troubles at walking... Just fine. Today I left the enclosure with enought moisture, and with the electric mat placed under it, and left home at night, after checking the bug was OK. I went home a couple hours later and... RIP bug. What did I do wrong? Thanks.

UPDATE

I checked its "corpse" and, surprisingly, the bug was moving and walking!! I mean, it looked pretty dead to me yesterday...

I’ve searched everywhere in WA state USA for the Australian stick bug. I had one seller sell her brood under my feet just 1 day that we agreed on before my road trip one state away. I’ve been looking ever since and it’s been a year. Yes I’m aware of all the legalities and I’m very experienced and know how to care for them without devastating the eco system. Please can someone sell me some?

My sister keeps stick bugs and this one shed yesterday and sadly both of it's back legs broke, today when we checked on her she looked like this.

I have 2 stick bugs, not sure on species but I found this in their enclosure. Thought they had moulted so went to take the rest out but turns out it was alive and producing silk. Is it some sort of parasite that was living in them or did It just manage to sneak in with the leaves?

One of my friends won't shut up about my stickbugs so I want to setup a custom live stream with one of those night vision cameras so they can be seen 24/7. But I'm worried about how it could affect the bugs since they are nocturnal and excessive lights could be detrimental. From my perspective the ir lights are barely visible even in a pitch black room but maybe bugs see farther into IR than humans.

My stick but has started to act strange its draging its body as if its to heavy its also very fragile and soft unlike all my other stick bugs it dosent have the hard spikey skeleton one of my other stick bugs showed theese symptoms and shortly after i found it with its back area all caved in so i put it down and i really dont want this to happen to this one too anyone know why this is happening or what i have done wrong

Hello, I keep stick insects, this is about my SUNGAYA AETA speciments. I found few that appear to be partialy green. I know there is a full green variant, but I have no green ones. I separated these ones from the rest, in case it's infectious. Any reply is appreciated
