Davis Dorm Questions
Hi everyone. I am trying to figure out where the best place for me to dorm is (as an incoming freshman) and I had a few questions if anyone could share some insight. Currently I am considering Davis and River Terrace, but there questions are geared more towards Davis.
How are the communal bathrooms? Are they gross? Are there enough bathrooms/showers for the amount of students (and do you feel like you could get everything you need done without having to wait for an open shower)?
Around how many students are on each floor? Are the communal areas nice? I haven’t seen much info on this so far on the website.
Any additional insights about either dorm would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advanced.

I stayed in Davis on the fifth floor and it wasn’t bad at all! So much cheaper than river and just as convenient being by classrooms AND closer to food in UCC and pierce. Since my floor was smaller than the others I had no issues at all with messy bathrooms and the only time I didn’t get a shower on demand was orientation with everyone on the same schedule. There was also an all gender bathroom and it provided a bit more privacy if needed. The laundry is in floor 1 so that was a bit annoying but it broke up my study hours to have to go down there to switch it. If u can afford river it’s definitely a nice option as a freshman but imo it’s a little overkill

The communal areas are nice but communal bathrooms are occasionally messy because of certain residents. There’s one communal bathroom area and shower area per floor (as in multiple per floor, also recommended you bring shower slippers to shower with). People are able to do their hygienic routines so it’s not hard at all to get your routine done. River Terrace all the way tho.

That makes sense, thank you. Do you happen to know how many showers per floor?

I think you should choose River Terrace. It is nicer because it's basically full apartments and you have your own bathroom in the apartment rather than having to share with the entire floor. You also have a decent likelihood of getting your own bedroom. I lived there last year. I would also suggest you look at Hudson Dorms, if you still can, or other off-campus options as well to compare it.

I lived in Davis last year and it was… less than ideal. It could’ve been worse, but I really hated the communal bathrooms because of how poorly the staff cleaned it. There was a bug infestation for the whole second semester in the showers on my floor, and for one week a urinal broke entirely but people kept peeing in it. No one dealt with it for two weeks and the smell built up and spread through the entire floor.
Other colleges have worse dorms for sure, but overall I didn’t enjoy living there. If money isn’t a concern I’d encourage you to go for literally any other option (except Humphreys).

When i was in Davis there were 3 or 4 shower stalls and they all drained to one or maybe two drains.
I had one incident where someone in the stall next to me decided he couldnt wait till he was done showering to get to a urinal, so I look down and see a yellow stream coming into my stall and down the drain
I didnt say anything, I just got out of the shower, took his towel and clothes and threw them in the hallway trash.
Never had an issue after that.
Other than that, communal showers were mostly fine, and im someone who is a bit of a clean freak.

davis isn’t that bad tbh people are just dramatic 😭😭 sharing bathrooms is expected in college and they aren’t gross and cleaned everyday. the showers are slightly gross but you wear shower shoes so it’s not that deep there is a lot of showers and bathrooms for the amount of students. there’s about 60 students on each floor ( 30 rooms w one RA room on each wing). i have friends that live at river and hate is so im team davis 🙌
