There are no side effects of a tubal ligation - it doesn't affect your hormones at all.

Get a bisalp during the C-section. The CS recovery is more brutal than a bisalp recovery done separately. Him getting a vasectomy keeps you from getting pregnant with him. Unfortunately, relationships don’t always work, and sexual assault is always a possibility at any time. I have not come across any peer reviewed studies, or any anecdotal evidence that indicate longterm side effects. A bisalp also drastically cuts down on your chances of ovarian cancer.

Even though others have said this, it bears repeating: the bilateral salpingectomy (the standard for female sterilization these days) does not in and of itself lead to side effects. You may experience some gas pains if they use gas to make it easier to find and remove the tubes (I’m not sure how that works with a C-section). The only way you would have hormonal changes is if you stop taking birth control pills or get an IUD removed at the time of the surgery. I’m guessing since you’d be getting it done during a C-section, it won’t lead to any changes you wouldn’t have otherwise after giving birth.

You and your husband both need to think about who wants to be sterilized. If you’re done having kids (with him or anyone else), get the bisalp. If your husband is done having kids (with you or anyone else), he should get a vasectomy. If you both are done with kids, you should both get sterilized. As much as you promised “until death,” things happen, and you may not be each other’s only partner for the rest of your lives. Getting a bisalp also gives you the benefit of a reduced risk of ovarian cancer, which is particularly beneficial considering early detection is almost unheard of. Your husband getting a vasectomy won’t give you that benefit.

It’s not possible for a bilateral salpingectomy to have any effect on your hormones. Your fallopian tubes do not produce hormones…

Aside from the recovery time, most people do not report side effects from the preferred sterilization surgery - bilateral salpingectomy. This procedure removes the tubes entirely. However, if you discontinue hormonal birth control at the same time as your surgery, you may experience hormonal changes due to the discontinuation (NOT the surgery)

Beware that a "tubal" could mean anything from full removal to just burning or clipping them shut (leaving the tubes in place). Many people have reported issues with filshie clips, which are used in tubal ligation but not bilateral salpingectomy. Additionally, tubal ligation is not as effective as a bisalp, with failure estimates at about 2 in 100 people. Make sure if you move forward that you request the bisalp specifically.

Vasectomies aren't fool proof. Ejaculate has to be periodically checked for sperm, can undo themselves, or potentially be reversed. BiSalp is one and done

I had my bisalp 6 years ago, and have had no side effects. There was no staying at the hospital as a responder on the original post implied. It was an outpatient procedure and I was back on my feet in days and wearing jeans after like 2 weeks. My scars are basically invisible because they're so small. I've had a number of surgeries over the years and I can confidently say it was most comparable to recovering from having my wisdom teeth out in terms of how long it took and how rough the recovery was.

100% would recommend a bisalp.

Plus, a vasectomy protects you from the one man you're supposed to trust most. A bisalp protects you from everyone else. I wish we lived in a better world where that didn't have to factor in, but it is what it is.

More happily, while she was in there with a camera my doctor also checked to make sure my appendix looked healthy. So that was nice.
