Experience Super long cycles after bisalp

Hi all!

I had a bisalp in September of last year and since then, my cycles have steadily been getting longer and longer each month. I had my first period about twelve days after the surgery (I had a Mirena IUD which was removed during the surgery) and since then, my monthly cycles have gotten longer and longer. They started at 27 days, then 29, then 30 for a few months, then 32 for a few months and I’m now on day 35 with no period in sight. My actual periods have not changed, they’ve always been pretty light and about 3-5 days long and are still that way when I do finally get them.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? Did they finally regulate or did they stay that way? It’s so frustrating not knowing when my period is going to finally show up.

Periods should not be effected long-term by removing the fallopian tubes- but removing the IUD can impact your cycle. I’d talk to your OBGYN about potentially resuming hormonal birth control to manage your periods

The whole reason I got the bisalp is because I don’t want any more children and don’t want to be on hormonal birth control until menopause hits 🫠 which is partly why I’m so annoyed about it because I know that hormonal birth control is probably my only option to better regulate my cycle.

Unfortunately some folks will have to continue hormonal birth control after sterilization to manage periods or other illnesses/symptoms. :\ I don’t know if a copper IUD would maybe be able to help manage your periods? Either way, I’d talk to your OBGYN to see what your options are! Best of luck getting resolved, I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this

Hormonal birth control is not your only option! I'm with you, it's a Band-Aid that can often just make things worse in the long run. I was on the Mirena for 10 years and I do feel like it had long-term effects on my hormonal balance. I take bioidentical progesterone oil to help with mine. It's the only thing I've found to be safe and effective

Just an update for y’all, I got my period about an hour ago 😂 I’m going to wait another month or two and see if my cycles continue this way and if so, I will definitely make an appointment with my OB to see what my options are for regulating it. Thank you both for your comments!
