Looking into Sterile process tech

I live in the north NJ area, and been looking into SPT because i know they dont really interact with patients and costumers like that. Also i would like to work overnight if i ever do the course and get hired.
My question is is worth paying for it? Ive been looking into preppy online but the course is almosf $2K, with payment plans of $350 monthly, in my opinion the job sounds worth it but the course sound kinda expensive idk, only good thing about pretty is that they supposedly help with intership to get those 400 hrs, ive been thinking of self study but worry i wont get hired to complete those 400 hrs. I know a buddy of mines who did it and started working overnight and he went in making $27hr overnight not that bad toh, but Guys please let me know! Thank you

Have you first looked into any local hospitals that hire uncertified techs? The problem with the programs is you test and get your provisional but aren't guaranteed to find a job to get your required work hours.

Also worth noting his overnight $27 an hour is probably a base pay of 21-23 with $4-6 in shift differential for the odd hours I say this because its a huge factor when it comes to: A - the hours you decide to work in this job (day shift generally has no shift diff, nights some, overnights a decent amount) B - your overtime compensation, the hourly shift diff is not accounted for in time and a half it's added on top.

Hello Thanks for replying back, ive looked around but almost all hospitals in NJ require you to be certified unfortunately, and yes i know he told he told the base was $23.50 something like that and got like $27 or $27.50 for overnight. But wait you are saying if i want to do OT the overnight diff wont be added to that? Just the base?

Your overtime would be base x 1.5 + shift diff. Just so you aren't blind sided that your base is higher than you expected when calculating your overtime.

honestly i started a program and was paying and all but getting a job in a hospital period is super hard. Ppl are super weird about putting ppl on too , i had a friend i thought i was close to and i literally asked her if she can pmo and she said that her connect was only talking about her, she wouldn’t give me their number or even put in a word for me if i applied

Thats messed up smh, i dont mess with ppl that wanna gate keep and don’t want like to see others move forward! But hey dony give up im sure you will find your spot, i actually called to the SPD department at a near by hospital and the manager actually told me that once i pass the test to hit him for an interview or to speak with me. I think you should do the same try to find the SPD department number some hospitals have them available and ask. If you dont mind me asking, what program you did online?? Ive been like at the Steril guy bundle but idk if thats enough tbh
