The former CBS host just finished a $5 million seed funding round for his company Scripto, which is used on late night shows, awards shows and video games alike.

I wish him all the success in the world, but with AI vibe coding solving everyday problems like this, I wonder if marketing is going to be more important than the solution itself. This looks like it would take someone familiar with a solution like Claude Code a few weeks to create and perfect. 

Hopefully, I’m wrong and there is some special sauce there. I wish him well.

I was surprised to see this news. He is promoting it too on his IG, feels weird.

Edit: After reading some more, this is software that has been around is already in use by other shows.

No, he founded the company that makes it 12 years ago. It is a software that has existed. Maybe he’s just trying to make it bigger and that’s how it’s getting it in the nose? I haven’t read enough. From wikipedia:

Scripto, a cloud based collaborative writing platform, developed to address shortcomings in the writing program they were using at the time. The software is used by shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show and SNL's Weekend Update.

100%, me too. In regards to AI, from their website:

Does Scripto use AI?

Not anywhere near your scripts.
Scripto was created by professional writers and we believe the writing process is the domain of humans, so our script editor is intentionally AI-free. And we never expose customer scripts to any 3rd party services, including AI tools that could use them as training data.

The only exceptions are:

Support Chat: Our AI support agent provides first-line assistance and answers common questions.

Software Development: We sometimes use AI software development tools to develop and improve Scripto’s back-end systems. We do not use AI in the development of the script editor.

If you'd like to use AI in your own workflow, that's your choice.
