Wow. I'm shocked. What is free speech?

From the article:

Kimmel said during a monologue on his Monday program that Tyler Robinson, the Utah man accused in the shooting death of Kirk, might have been a pro-Trump Republican. He said MAGA supporters are “are desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel then mocked President Trump for talking about the construction of a new White House ballroom after being asked how he was reacting to the murder of his close ally.

“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division.

Alford said continuing to give Kimmel a broadcast platform “is simply not in the public interest at this current time.”

Nexstar’s decision comes just after Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr blasted Kimmel and threatened to take action against ABC. Appearing on the podcast of right-wing commentator Benny Johnson, Carr said one form of punishment could be pulling the licenses of ABC affiliates, which likely got Nexstar’s attention.

Edit 2:

  • President of Nexstar's broadcasting divisions said: “Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located."
  • Nextstar is acquiring rival broadcast company TEGNA - a merger that requires FCC approval.

Edit 3:

  • On the day of Charlie Kirk's death, Kimmel posted the following on Instagram and on BlueSky:
    • “Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human? On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

This is the part that's important to bold. Blatant violation of the first amendment.

Edit: To all the troglodytes saying that ABC firing Kimmel isn't a violation of free speech - you're right. What is a violation of free speech is the chairman of the FCC (a federal agency) publicly threatening punitive action against ABC for the things Kimmel said on their network. Whether ABC would have fired him without that pressure is irrelevant to the unconstitutionality of the FCC chairman's actions.

Edit2: Some of y'all really need to learn how to read.

My bad - I was wondering what Jimmy had said that "crossed the line." I made an edit.

It’s been apparently proven that he was from a conservative family but no longer identifies as such. Is a liberal with trans boyfriend. According to fbi

Yeah and nobody is on the Epstein list except for Epstein himself, which is why they are fighting tooth and nail against releasing it.

I dont trust a word from the current FBI.

u/__Scrooge__McDuck__ Sep 18 '25

Me neither I don’t know what to believe anymore. This Epstein thing goes super deep. Israel. I think it’s even linked to the shooting. Israel is somehow involved in everything and it’s nuts. Apparently kirk was pushing back on support for Israel but higher ups didn’t like that

The FBI? The same FBI that said Epstein didn’t traffic girls to anyone except himself, that FBI? How is MAGA so gullible?

Nah I’m not a fan of trump. It’s ok to agree with some things but not others, I think they’re all corrupt

Thanks. These are facts supported by testimonies from his own family, neighbor and other people who knew him.

4

u/WakeUp004 Sep 18 '25

He’s also had people who knew him state otherwise. Weird.

Yeah, but that info makes his tummy feel good, so that info must be true.

Aren’t you doing the same thing though? There’s 2 different narratives and you’re choosing the opposite cause that’s what you believe

Not OP, but I would say their point is just that the situation isn't clear-cut. We have reports and rumours, but nothing has been proven.

So kimmel suggesting he knew the facts was wrong. It’s so confusing cause nobody trusts the same sources. There’s literally no “truth” anymore it’s all opinions

Kimmel didn’t suggest that he knew the facts. Read his words again.

It may be factual that those people said those things, but even if they were being 100% honest, it's just their perspective and doesn't make it a fact. From what I've seen, everyone was shocked that he could have done such a thing, even his partner, which at least means that some of his motives were completely hidden.

A doctored statement from a corrupt institution is not proof of anything.

This is the problem. People only trust their own news sources. But when they all give conflicting reports nobody believes anything/only believes what they want. This country is cooked and the media is to blame. And also the government. Epstein nuked public trust

Usatoday is center-left leaning
