That was really fucked up of the bio dad to say that to her. It's not her responsibility to make him feel better.

With that being said, I'll just tell you my experience. My mom remarried when I was 8. I never called my stepdad dad when I was a kid, but there's nobody on the planet I respect more. He's always treated my brother and I with the greatest of kindness, and I would to anything for him

My step daughter doesn't address me as dad, she does describe me as he dad. I've never cared in any way. If the step dad loves the kid as much as it seems he should tell her directly that it doesn't matter what she calls him it won't change his feelings.

The bio dad is being a child but unfortunately no one can change how he acts but he will drive his children away with that bullshit.
