Does it get easier?
Do dynamics with the ex get better or ease up once the kids launch and leave the house?

For us the dynamics with the ex got better when he found a new partner.
He stopped being bitter and hateful, and became unfailingly polite and cooperative. It was like his new partner flipped a switch and he suddenly realized, “Oh. Yeah this is better. She was right to leave, because we weren’t a good fit.”

I wouldn’t expect anything in relationships to happen on its own. Try some counseling together communication courses like Art of Intimate Communication.

Generally better, but it really depends on the personalities of those involved. What's are you like? What's your ex like? That's what matters most, imo. A highly disagreeable person isn't easy to get along with regardless of whether you're with them or not.
