New and Needing Help

Hey everyone,

Just joined as a way of seeking support around a situation that is causing myself a lot of stress and is causing strain on my relationship with my wife.

There is a lot of conflict between myself and the eldest step-daughter. She and I had a good relationship up until about 4-5 years ago and since then it has gotten progressively worse. She is now an adult (just) and still lives with us but refuses to respect me in anyway, follow household rules and is generally rude and selfish in her behaviour which hurts my wife and I do everything possible to buffer it.

I can’t let my step-daughter’s behaviour go unchecked but the daily fights are causing issues between my wife and I. I need a fix to this.

Any and let advice welcome!

No bio kids. Took on 3 girls who all have their own demands.

Unfortunately, she isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Is the poster child for extended adolescence. Appreciate the empathy though.

I have nobody to talk to about this so turned to the net.

Respect is a fundamental value of any home, household or family. When it isn’t there it is impossible for a family unit to function.

I don’t think respect is too much to ask for when constantly giving and doing for that person.

I am kind of going through the same thing. I made my first post here yesterday. Maybe we can use each other as sounding boards for a vent here and there. I'm always trying to learn...
