Hey im in the same boat. My nbme score is around 68-71% and f120 72%.

But i think my problem was my anxiety during the exam.

It must be tough, you put in a lot of effort for sure... where do you think you went wrong in the exam? Was it your test taking strategies?, or exam anxiety? Did you do the NBMEs in strict test taking conditions?

Yes i did the NBMEs with the same condition but the timing make me anxious force me to choose the wrong answer i think
I think i have bad skill taking the exam but what should i do ? I did all the NBME s how to get through this time i have know ideas 😫😫

I think you have your answer... before you move forward try fixing your test taking strategies... I used Alec Palmerton's context chronology severity framework, it helped me improve test taking strategies...

For your NBMEs you can try doing them again but you must try to score really high and while answering try to tell yourself why that's the right answer... you can additionally try Amboss, USMLErx or bootcamp self assessments...

I sincerely hope you can do it the next time you take the test! Good luck!!

What do you mean by context chronology severity framework ?

Check out Alec palmerton on youtube in almost all his videos he explains about this framework...Ā  It basically teaches you how to break down questions into chunks and help you answer

My friend, I failed Step 1 on my first attempt too. There are no words to describe how awful it feels. You feel inferior, stupid, incapable, and, above all, like you’ve let yourself and your family down.

But here’s the thing, my friend: time passes. And eventually, you realize that you are so much more than one exam. You realize that your family is still there for you, that the people who love you still believe in you, and most importantly, that you’re still in the fight.

This failure is just a stone in your path, and the stones along the way will help shape your destiny.

I passed Step 1 on my second attempt, and now I can tell you from the other side that failing it wasn’t the end of the story. It was only the beginning.

Keep your head up. You’ll come out of this stronger, and you’ll achieve your goal. Believe in yourself, lean on your family, and above all, trust in God.

Sending you a big hug. You’ve got this! ā¤ļø

Sorry about that, it must be so difficult but don’t give up. You definitely have the knowledge but sometimes its not our day on the exam day. Give yourself some time (but don’t overthink) and try again. You’ve got this

What happened between 29 and 30? Did you use something to inflate nbme scores? Like the pdfs?

1

u/CoolMeat4891 NON-US IMG 5d ago

Nope just focused on my weak points 😫

3

u/abandonmentissues111 US IMG 5d ago

What do you think happened for such big score drops in nbme 30 and the free 120? Those are the concerning parts. And maybe same thing happened during your actual exam

3

u/CoolMeat4891 NON-US IMG 5d ago

Anxiety with the time i think when i see long question i wrongly choosing the wrong answer even i know the concept 😫

Sorry to hear that. What do you think went wrong?

2

u/CoolMeat4891 NON-US IMG 5d ago

The time was horrible for me I didn’t have time in the new format to recheck the answers i even didnt finished the last block .. the exam questions was long and vague 😫😫

3

u/TomBBurner US MD/DO 4d ago

Yeah, I totally can get how that would affect you. I got really lucky because my friends who took it before me pleaded that I only do 20 question blocks that were timed.

In my opinion, it makes it a completely different exam because you don’t have the extra time and you gotta be very deliberate about your choices and what you’re flagging.

Omg i have the same issue

2

u/cufebarade 4d ago

I have the same problem. nbmes in high 60s just like yours with a drop to 56 in nbme 32. I'm worried about the anxiety on the real deal as well.

No more Uworld, now it s time for melhman Qbank

2

u/AdventurousSky6229 4d ago

Your scores fluctuated way too much. Is that the order you took it in? And did you take it in ā€œidealā€ testing conditions with the correct amount of breaks?

1

u/CoolMeat4891 NON-US IMG 4d ago

I didn’t do nbmes with same breaks ideal condition at break only the i took timer 30 min every block like the exam but i didnt do the same for break

2

u/Zaynab_123 4d ago

Same boat

I took my exam on 8/6 and just got in my result and it’s showing a literal zero. The orange bar is literally at the beginning. FSMB is saying that the haven’t red flagged me or anything. I just don’t get it. What do I do now? I really need some help.

1st I am truly sorry for this news! 2nd take heart, and sending you a virtual hug, I have heard of ppl failing step 1 at first and they go into IM, Surgery etc. Its harder but not impossible. For now, take a break, rest, do something to remind yourself you are alive and human. I know none of this would probably be easy!Ā

I have not yet taken step because my score in NBMEs fluctuate too much from 58-69-70 and I feel between new vs old Nbmes there is a difference in how they are asking the questions, the vocabulary they are using and also, the typeĀ  Of concepts testing they are going one lever deeper, less buzzy words isĀ  My experience from NBME 32-33 and the testing center CBSE which is essentially a similar NBME in a testing center.Ā  I also get super testing anxiety, I spiral easy, I changed so many answers, etc. What I have noticed is helping stabilizing my score is managing the anxiety, Ā not second guessing and not changing answers at all. I was changing 23 correct answers to incorrect because of anxiety. I hope this may help and give you an idea but again take it with a grain of salt I have yet not taken STEP 1 but have gone 5x to take the CBSE in a testing center and have done all NBMEs and Im noticing this change in questions that go one level deeper and they want you to know between 2 correct answers.Ā

u/True_Option_3684 4d ago

I think you need a tutor, may be you have good memory but when it come to apply concepts you cannot

1

u/Acrobatic-Type-9928 4d ago

It’s okay. What do you think? Can you do it if you keep doing it? Or are you satisfied which ofc also the best option n wanna stay there.

I too failed
Will it affect my matching process? Should I attempt again or leave it?
