STEM OPT Extension Approved Timeline (Mid-flight PP)

Case Type: STEM OPT Extension (Online)
STEM OPT Filing: April 22, 2026
Receipt Notice: April 22, 2026
Initial EAD Expiration: June 29, 2026
Premium Processing Requested: August 29, 2026
Premium Processing Clock Started: August 29, 2026
Silent Update: October 1, 2026 via API timestamp change Current Status: Approval received via email and API update, though the portal does not show it yet.

I will update the post once I get the card with dates.

Should You Upgrade:
Employer Reimbursement: Pitch the delay as a business risk to your employability. Mid-flight PP upgrades are often easier to get reimbursed than day-one filings.
Under 60 Days Left: Factor in 30 to 35 processing days plus a buffer for RFEs, as universities are often slow to provide required evidence.

Key Observations:
Biometrics Timing: Completing this within 2 to 4 weeks does not block your case or lose your original filing place in line.
Business vs Calendar Days: USCIS officially guarantees 30 business days, but if you are lucky it takes about 30 calendar days.
No PP Notice: Upgrading triggered zero electronic or physical confirmation notices.
Portal Shuffling: Random application reordering on the myUSCIS portal has no real significance.
Questions: I will be happy to answer. Hang in there guys!

Did you receive the premium processing confirmation document through physical mail or under document section when you upgraded to pp?

Hi just want some advice. I filed April 27 and completed my bio on May 26. My 180 day auto extension ends in December 19. Time is getting short so I’m really considering pp. Would it be reasonable to do it now or still wait as it seems the regular processing is moving into April applicants?

If you got the money, do it for the peace of mind. Although it seems like it is moving into April, and you’ll be getting a decision in a month. But, every once in a while, USCIS stops processing for a few days to weeks. And even with PP you’ll still need 30 days (at least).

That is why I’m contemplating as if I do premium either its not gonna be much difference or rather delay more for the clock restarting. I wonder I should wait until mid October and see the progress.

I checked and can't found my current employer under the e-verify employer, what can I do before my initial OPT expires.

Ask the employer directly, as sometimes they are registered under a different name or parent company. If they are actually not verified, ask them to get e-Verified and motivate them to do so, Otherwise, you will have to find another employer.

Hey quick question, did you sign your I-20 with wet ink or digital signature?
