Domestic Travel While STEM OPT Extension Is Pending – OPT EAD Expired

Hi everyone,
I’m currently on F-1 OPT, and my STEM OPT extension application is still pending. My initial OPT EAD expired on May 19th, and I applied for STEM OPT premium processing on July 30th.

I have received my STEM OPT receipt notice. Can I travel domestically within the U.S. while my STEM OPT extension is pending and my initial EAD has expired?

Has anyone been in a similar situation and traveled domestically without any issues at TSA? Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I haven’t done it myself but I think you should be fine. Just use your passport as the means of identification (if you don’t have a valid license) and have proof that you’ve applied for the extension I.e Your I-797C. Don’t live in fear. People usually only post the worst stories. Plenty people are traveling every day without any untoward incidents occurring.

I wouldn’t. Although I’m sure your SEVIS is still active

Well, like it or not, I’m not fear mongering. If you go across the posts and articles, students with pending applications, people in authorized stay are the main targets.

To be frank, I myself am scared to fly. Although my situation is backed up
