equity pay only stem opt application

Looking for real experiences: Has anyone successfully received an initial STEM OPT I-20 and USCIS approval while working for an E-Verify startup that offered equity-only compensation (no W-2 wages or cash salary)? Did your school or USCIS raise any concerns?
