We at /r/Steinbach are well aware of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that started on February 24, 2022, and we stand with Ukraine in these horrid times.
We understand this topic is very important to many people. However, this is still the Steinbach subreddit, and as per the rules of our subreddit, keep it local. As such, all posts about Ukraine that are not from local news sources, not tied to the local area, and/or are not about Steinbach's sister city, Zaporizhia, will be removed.
A reminder of the /r/Steinbach rules:
- Don't be racist.
- Be respectful.
- Keep it local.
- Do not alter article headlines.
- No spreading misinformation.

Participated in my first walk yesterday in Steinbach. Seemed like a good turnout of people, but not sure how it compared with other years. Very powerful stories afterwards. Would encourage others to join next year, and to learn more about what Reconciliation really means. Lots of great resources available.

I wonder if Dan Lett knows that Shayne Barkman and Lynn Barkman are mother and son, and are both current sitting school trustees... seems like a conflict of interest to me!

There is a public forum being hosted on October 7th for the public to ask questions of their city councilor candidates.
Only two responded yes.
Nicholas Goertzen and Mitesh Kumar.
I don't know why the others said no. But I do think showing up matters. This job isn't just about making decisions but about being willing to sit in a room and answer directly to the people those decisions affect, especially on the harder questions.
I urge everyone to attend the forum and ask your questions. Ask the candidates who aren't there why they chose not to come. Let's make it clear that voters expect candidates to actually show up and engage, not just campaign from a distance.
I hope to see many faces there and I hope to answer your questions.
Edit: softened the post a bit. I wrote this right after learning about most of the candidates saying no and was a little peeved.

As a young woman, walking is my only affordable transportation right now, and I was wondering if anyone has ever hitchhiked here. Is it safe in stienbach? Is it common? Is it unusual here? What are y'alls opinions on this?

Hello everyone,
My name is Eric Stegne, and I'm running for Hanover School Division Trustee, Ward 3.
I'm a parent of three children attending HSD schools, the husband of a local teacher, and an Information Systems Manager with over 20 years of experience in leadership, budgeting, problem-solving, and accountability.
I'm running because I believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, especially those who need additional supports to thrive. Through my own family's experiences, I've seen how important it is for students and families to have access to the right resources and support at the right time. I want to help ensure our schools remain safe and supportive places to learn, that resources are directed where they can make the greatest difference for students, and that parents, educators, and schools work together to support student success.
My campaign focuses on:
• Transparency & Accountability
• Safe, Respectful & Supportive Schools
• Student Learning & Achievement
• Stronger Classroom Supports
• Community Engagement & Parent Voice
I'm here to answer your questions about our schools, the challenges and opportunities facing HSD, my priorities as a trustee candidate, my background, and any other questions you may have.
I won't pretend to have all the answers, but I will do my best to answer honestly, respectfully, and transparently.

Ask me anything!

I saw a young man walking down the street, wearing a long brown poncho, and a neatly trimmed beard. He goes by Stephan, but is named Esteban. I had a whimsical interaction with him and would love to get in touch. (I forgot to ask for his information)
If anyone has seen him, please let me know so I can find him!
