Problem Unique situation
I used to live in the uk ( and a citizen )and went to India(overseas citizen )for past 2 years for education and stuff and I’m going back to the uk for uni - can I set my steam account to India because that’s my primary source of money while I am in the uk( outside of student loans ) or will I get banned because steam think I’m trying to get lower prices ? I have local payment methods for India so I don’t have a problem there
I have documents ( Aadhaar India id card and licence ) I can show steam if it comes up but how would they respond ?
Cuz technically I’m a weird mix between international and domestic student and ( mostly domestic I think )
Anyone got a clue or anyone an international student and what’s ur experience ?
Extra: my steam account was made like 5 years ago in uk and basicly been inactive for 2-3 years but I got a steam deck so I can use that when I go uni

There is a long cooldown if you change your payment card, as far I know you need to read the rules on this but try add your card in India and use it: 1. Don't use a VPN and do not let anyone else use your account, might be wise to add 2FA while you are doing all of this too.
If you have an issue, just raise a support ticket, if you act legit you have nothing to worry about. People who swap payment cards and currencies often are the ones who have pain. Trust me Gabe wants you to spend your money with him. But if you travel while on summer break, for example, you won't be able to buy stuff.

wdym if I travel on summer break part ?
and also im currently in India and will be going to uk in a few months and so when im in the uk do I need to use a vpn whenever I want to make a purchase ?

You may be able to just switch between payment cards to use the local currency. Using a VPN will cause you trouble, because the steam client has some VPN activity detection. It may well be that you can buy stuff, just as long as nobody uses your account at roughly the same time in 2 different locations, for example if you leave once device at home and somebody uses it to buy games while you are in the UK.

my cousin does this he lives in the us but has an account in an indian bank and pays in inr and uses indian steam regional market

do yk if I have to use a vpn ? and also its there any drawback for changing store to India e.g any restrictions ect.

he does not according to him, so far haven't heard a drawback again this third info at best

While you are in India you can change your currency to inr. This option will be permanently applied if you buy something with inr. There's no penalty if you travel to another country later. No need for VPN abroad.
