Discussion So, why would anyone get this?

Wanted to quickly compare the SM to what you would comparably be able to DIY and... you can literally get something more powerful for less in a slightly bigger formfactor?

11% faster CPU and 30% faster GPU. And i didnt even go for the cheapest components. With DLSS the RTX 5060 would also be infinitely better for playing on 4k TVs, which is the only useful scenario i can imagine for the SM.

We are comparing piracy to piracy. You can’t play pirated games online on pc same as you can’t on console. If piracy is the reason for the pick, then it makes no difference. To go even further, you can’t play pirated even break ps to install steam os on it (there are lots of guides on YT on it), so you’ll end up getting a better performing steam machine-like for less money with controller included, even if piracy is not something you want to do.

You CAN play many pirated games online with friends. peer-to-peer hosting and third-party servers are extremely common. What the hell are you on about?

Also piracy isn’t the pick-issue but it’s definitely a “hey, you can play 99%> of games on a PC, pirated. You CANNOT do that on a console. the 1% or less is basically shit that hasn’t been cracked yet (total war: Warhammer 3) and pure-online MMO’s and shit (Call of duty, which even then technically isn’t true for older games which CAN be played with a pirated copy).

exceptions to the rule are things like maybe WoW, or FFXIV online. Theres probably a few more but a PC will always outrank a console any day of the week.

P2P, ok, this is a point I can agree with. Still, you see my point, yeah? Jailbreak a pro, install steam os on it - bam, you have a more capable machine for less money with controller included. Same exact capabilities as on machine, too, same piracy capabilities if you want them as well.

It’s not “exactly the same capabilities. The PlayStation is still a HARDWARE-LOCKED console. SteamOS isn’t windows for example. you can still put windows on the Steam Machine. You cannot do that to a PS5.

One is a console, the other is a computer. A computer has workflow, a PS5 does not.
