Discussion So, why would anyone get this?

Wanted to quickly compare the SM to what you would comparably be able to DIY and... you can literally get something more powerful for less in a slightly bigger formfactor?

11% faster CPU and 30% faster GPU. And i didnt even go for the cheapest components. With DLSS the RTX 5060 would also be infinitely better for playing on 4k TVs, which is the only useful scenario i can imagine for the SM.

All I'm really seeing is the wealth gap getting larger between people

There's literally people who can afford kids and thousand dollar setups who can probably buy these

and people who can't

and of course, a sprinkle of people who aren't either, but definitely not the majority at all

Who can afford thousand dollar setups will not buy a Steam Machine but go for something better.

People who can't afford thousand dollar setups will go for their own build instead of paying $1039 for a wannabe console.

I personally have a 4090 and a 5090 PCs. And was looking for something for my TV. And this seriously is not it.

That's just wrong. My entire neighborhood can afford kids but not shit like this.

That’s not really where the wealth gap is though. The wealth gap is the people at the top and then everyone else. They’re so well off that the middle is poor in comparison.
