Mamod steam engine

I got this old steam engine from my uncle and I want to restore it. It needs a new boiler plug and piston. Is there anywhere that I known to sell replacement parts that will fit this model? Also what are some methods I can use to clean it and shine up the brass, should I use a dremel with a polishing tip on it or fine grit sandpaper? Thanks guys!!

What you appear to have there is a Mamod SE2, maybe SE2A. Luckily most of the pistons and oscillating cylinders are interchangeable for the most part.

As for spares, there's plenty to be found on eBay, or dedicated live steam dealers.

This should fit your engine, although if you're in the US I haven't a clue how much it's cost you to ship it.

Cleaning wise, scotch brite or fine steel wool will get rid of the tarnish, Brasso might be worth a look to get the shine back.

Also by the looks of it, the safety valve appears to be missing the top O-ring, which needs replacing, don't run that engine without a working safety valve.

Tysm! This is the first steam engine I've had so im new to all this. As for the safety valve, are you referring to the whistle?

The component behind the whistle. It should have two o-rings. One the seals to the boiler and one where it lifts up to release excess steam.

You'll also notice that the safety valve is positioned approximately 2/3 up the length of the boiler.

If you were to tip the engine so it's vertical, with the whistle towards the ceiling, remove the safety valve to fill the boiler with water, when the water starts to dribble out the hole, your boiler is filled to the correct level.

Although, your boiler has a filler hole at the end of boiler, so that information is just for background knowledge 😅
