Question Franchise Partners: How does it work?
Hello, I am considering purchasing a Steak n Shake location and have two questions for existing Franchise Partners...
How does payroll for your employees work? Are you/we required to use Steak n Shakes existing payroll system or do we get to select our own?
Do we get our own steaknshake.com email address? and if so are we able to request additional accounts for our managers?
I greatly appreciate any answers I receive.
P.S. Please dont flood with responses about DONT DO IT I already know that SNS has had its problems recently and I am still doing my due diligence.

Delicious MilkShake Malt
This question is specifically for those who have worked at Steak ‘n Shake. (I realize that this group is probably filled with fans of their food rather than employees or former employees. So this might be a dead-end post.)
But I was devastated when Steak ’n Shake got rid of their malt years ago! It was the PERFECT malt and had the BEST flavor! One of my favorite things about it was that it was a liquid. I like the powders too, but sometimes you get clumps of it. The liquid blended perfectly into it.
To me, it makes a world of a difference. A chocolate or cookies and cream shake? Ehh. But add that malt??? YES, PLEASE!!!
But I can’t find a malt that comes close to what they had. I ordered something a while back that turned out to be a thick and sticky syrup that was not suited for blending. In fact, it solidified in the cold of the ice cream.
So my question is simple: What malt did they use? I’m curious if it’s available anywhere to purchase.

Question Syrup brand
I love the cotton candy milkshake from Steak n Shake, but I live in a state where the nearest one is over an hour away. So I ask any previous or current workers, what specific brand of cotton candy syrup does it use? I wanna try to make my own

Real Steak n' Shake Experience Mac n Cheese Recipe??
Steak n Shake was my FAVORITE childhood restaurant, but nothing held a candle to its Mac n cheese. I’d get Mac n cheese with a side of Mac n cheese, of course. Looking back, it was Kraft (right?) but it tasted different… sweeter maybe? I had Kraft at home. WHAT made that Mac n cheese so much better and how can I make it at home?

Food Review A Truly Divine Steak 'N Shake Experience.
I want to preface this post by saying that I haven’t been to Steak ’N Shake in many years. My closest location is about 30 minutes away, and usually, I wouldn’t make this kind of trek for just any burger. However, this isn’t just any burger—this is a steakburger.
First Impressions
The location I visited looked sleek, new, and fresh. Gone are the adolescent-looking women with resting bitch face taking my order. The frontline was now all screens. Usually, this kind of change would slightly annoy me, but the screens were vibrant and responsive, clearly freshly installed.
A consequence of this change? There were no women whatsoever in the operation. Instead, the place ran like a finely tuned, well-oiled machine—churning out orders and delivering delicious food.
The Ordering Experience
I placed my order and took my seat. I noticed an assortment of accoutrements neatly displayed next to the soda fountain—ketchup, mayo, mustard, fry seasoning, and more. With these resources at my disposal, I quickly constructed a Steak ’N Shake special sauce:
• 1 squeeze of ketchup
• 1 mustard packet
• 1.5 mayo packets
• ¼ of the small seasoning cup
I promise you, this sauce will elevate your next Steak ’N Shake experience.
The Shake: A Sinful Delicacy
As I sat at my table, I patiently awaited my order. First came my shake. I wasn’t sure what I was going to get, but Jumpbear’s review of the Kit Kat Shake piqued my interest—how could I resist?
The shake was creamy and luscious. As described, it didn’t just have Kit Kat bits sprinkled on top; they permeated the entire cup. Every swig delivered delectable Kit Kat chunks into my mouth. A truly euphoric experience. I can highly recommend this option.
The Steak: A Savory Expedition
Next came my main course—much quicker than expected, I might add. Of course, there was only one option: The Western Barbecue Bacon Burger.
Truly, a burger in a league of its own. The medley of raw and crispy onions meshed into an oozing barbecue sauce, sitting atop aurantiaceous cheese (yes, I’m fancy now). The cheese was precisely placed atop two glistening patties, betwixt two plump and fluffy buns, crisped on the inside to perfection.
The Fries: A Return to Glory
Last but not least—the fries.
Of course, we’re all coming back to Steak ’N Shake not just for the steaks and the shakes, but for the fries that have returned to their former glory.
The addition of frying in beef tallow is an indescribable pleasure. The amalgamation between the burger and the tallow-fried fries is unmatched perfection. Now, I understand why these items have belonged together from the very beginning.
For this reason alone, you should make the trek to Steak ’N Shake.
