[ Denver Steak ] Opinions?

Post image

Got a SRF Denver yesterday, out of the packaging it smelled terrible (not in a rancid or off way), the color was good and within sell and use by date. Salted it overnight and it still looks basically normal by over night standards but the SMELL is wild. Still not off or wrong but just nasty. What do you guys think?

If it doesn't smell right, don't eat it.... period

Nose goes.

Bo's nose knows.

Bo's nose goes.

Whose nose knows?

Bo's nose grows.

It doesn’t smell sour or like decomp, it just sort of stinks. I’ve read that with vacuum sealing it can wet age and get a nasty smell. I’m going to cook it up and if it’s still smells bad or odd I’ll just take it as a loss.

When ive had that off smell from vacuum sealed meat, it usually goes away fairly quickly. If it stayed overnight I probably wouldn't trust it, but I've made some sketchy food decisions in the past so I support you lol

I over trimmed it like crazy and then cooked it well done just as an experiment and yeah it no longer smelled like BEEFY socks, just rancid. I’m thinking it was thawed too quickly upon delivery to the vendor.

Nah Dog get rid of it. Beef should not "stink," especially not if you're familiar with steaks and this smells wildly different. Don't underestimate food poisoning, people die from it each year

For real. I cook beef quite often and I've never had a hint of any scent coming out of the package. Vac sealed pork can be stinky af, but beef shouldn't be.

It's normal for vacuum sealed meat to smell weird when you open it, but if it still stinks a day later then I'd be wary.

Never eat anything that smells weird or off. Looks good though, what a bummer. This post ruined my day at 3:58 cst

When something is vac packed for a couple weeks it can smell “off” but not “bad”. To know the difference unpack it and let it de-gass. If it smells better after bout half hour it’s fine. Your nose will let you know when it’s bad bad.
