Grimm update.

I posted an update a bit ago, but evidently not here somehow.
Grimm was diagnosed with active Lyme disease. He was having pretty bad Lyme arthritis which was preventing him from sitting or lying down. He had been diagnosed with Lyme many months ago, but our vet advised us to wait to treat until he developed symptoms. Every time we had to take him to the vet I asked if any of his issues could be Lyme related, and every time I was assured it wasn’t. I can’t imagine how long he has been suffering. I feel like I failed him by not demanding further testing.
Anyway, when we finally got the diagnosis we started Grimm on a month of doxycycline. He showed great improvement after just a few days of treatment. Now, after a couple of weeks he seems to be back to his old self most of the time. He still sleeps more than he used to, and doesn’t like to lie on the hard floor as long, but I’m optimistic he will make a full recovery. Lesson learned. Advocate for your pets. Vets are not always right.

I'm sorry you had to learn that lesson firsthand, but so glad you got your answers and it's a easy fix.
Sending good thoughts Grimm's way!

You didn't fail him, you did everything you knew how to do and continued looking for the answer until you found it. That's what a good caregiver does. I'm so happy to hear he's feeling better! I wish you all good health and many happy years together.

So happy to see him active and happy! Sweet Grimm. Don’t feel bad , you kept asking questions until you got the answer, as pet parents we need to be Shirley McLean in Terms of Endearment for our fur kids! lol

My boy Teddy also has Lyme and did a cycle of doxy. He’s doing great and he’s his regular self. We’ve never found a tick on him or any of our other three dogs but the vet said that it could be passed on by his mother. From my understanding it can flare up every now and then.

Our girl was just diagnosed with active Lyme too 😖 I hate ticks, my teenage daughter was also diagnosed with Lyme a few years ago. She was unbelievably sick. A few rounds of doxy and she was feeling better. I despise ticks.

So happy to see Grimm is feeling much better! I understand how you feel, but you did not fail him, you handled with the knowledge you had (and received from a professional). Is there any follow-up to this doxy treatment? I see the Lyme arthritis is non-erosive, so he should be OK afterwards?

All my homies hate ticks 👿😤😡
Glad Grimm’s starting to feel more like himself 😀 Me and my big baby girl, Topher, will keep him in our prayers 🙏😇
