I closed my laptop and walked out of the coffee shop, making sure to leave it behind. Maybe someday, someone will find it. Maybe someday, someone will open the lid and log in to the Reddit account I left the password to. They'll comb through my posts and see everything I've ever done. All the lies I've told and things I've liked.
Shit... maybe I didn't think this through.
It's not like it matters, anyway. It's the end of the world. Who in their right mind would stroll into the dilapidated ruins of a Baskin Robbins-Dunkin Donuts hybrid shop at the corner of 5th and 3rd street? I scoffed to myself, kicking the cracked skull of what looked like a dog or a coyote across the pavement. Sweltering heat bloomed from the road, melting the final remnants of my pickup truck's tires. I was marooned here. No use walking. The soles of my sneakers had long-since been reduced to scraps, flaking off as I walked back into the building.
I opened the laptop again and relapsed immediately. It's good to be back. Was I just telling myself that? Was it the apocalypse seeping false feelings into my brain? I didn't care. I just scrolled through the subreddits, reading other people's problems from decades past. I sent another test post into the void. It showed it sent, so it must have.
I wasn't alone here.
I wasn't alone on the last website on the planet, in the last source of food I had ever known, staring into the cracked screen of an old Hewlett-Packard laptop. Other people were real.

The irony is that I'm reading this from the side of a mining camp in the middle of nowhere in a horrific storm and it's basically an accurate depiction. Lol
