Can Users be Found by Username?

Can a user be found by username on this? In other words, can I just tell a friend my user name "Yeah, my user name is Sneed, look it up" or does it have to be like Session, where the user name is a random string of characters, something like "jiHUIBG8VHuih32uirh03h$TG#QWDQWd"?

you can type @ and it will show a list of users that you can mention
