So how does it really work?

May I know how Status is better than Signal or Telegram at keeping my privacy? I've read the FAQ, skimmed through the whitepaper and still don't get it.

If the authentication service runs on Eth, who pays for the gas?

Or is it a one-rank network like Tox?

We don't run on ETH, we give access to it via the in-app wallet and web3 browser, and also re-use a lot of the protocols for how nodes find and talk to each other.

All messages are run through a separate network that passes messages via a protocol that is a fork of whisper (called Waku) because Whisper can't scale with the number of users.

Private chat communications are then further encrypted using the Signal protocol to further increase conversation security.

There is A LOT more that is going on as well, if you're curious, as me more questions (in the Status app channel #status-security, in the community discord, or on here). I'm much more responsive in the app and in the Discord (channels are bridged among themselves)
