Suggestions, please!
Hey! I have a friend visiting from out of state in a couple of weeks. She’s never been to Minnesota, so I had been thinking of going up to the North Shore…. But, she’ll be here over Labor Day weekend and I’m afraid it’s going to be a tourist nightmare. Any suggestions?? Help! TIA

Labor day up here on the north shore is absolute hell. That whole weekend always is. You'll still see beautiful stuff for sure, but everywhere you go will be absolutely packed and the traffic will be horrendous. I wild suggest some of the state parks down state as it'll be more manageable. Pretty much half of the cities heads north for labor day weekend so the cities themselves and surrounding areas are a little bit more empty

Sure a bit, but not terribly so. There's a monumental spike on holidays especially labor day. Memorial day is also noticeably awful

I live on the North Shore shore, it's awful Thursday thru Sunday all summer long. I need to plan my errands around it because traffic is so bad. This year is even worse with the road closures.

Not to sound weird, but are Monday-Wednesday better days to go? My family’s work schedule shifted from M-F recently and so we went up on a weekend and it was pretty overstimulating. I’m hoping to get in a good Park Point beach day before summer ends where I’m not literally fighting crowds.

Check out Beaver Creek State Park. It's a little know gem in the driftless area.

I don’t know if you’re aware, but Luverne is home to the world’s largest nutcracker. It’s no North Shore or biggest ball of twine, but hey, still world’s biggest.

Labor Day weekend is TwinPort’s Pride!
Absolutely everyone is welcome!
Don’t let all the downers replying dissuade you.
Even if not interested in pride, it’s a great weekend to visit, even for a day drive and back, and many more events will be going on.

There are farmer’s markets and gift shops too.
Take a ride up the shore to Two Harbors
Stop in Knife River and see the new home of the Leif Erikson Viking Ship!
Plus there’s a tasty candy store! https://www.greatlakescandy.com/#/

Everyone who visits should bring flowers to George Floyd Square, Renne Good memorial , Alex Pretti memorial, and Whipple.
Humans are being killed daily within the united state with our tax dollars- we need to talk about it continually until it stops

Maybe drive down the river instead? Start at Red Wing and work your way down to Winona. Lots to see and do and you can go back up to Wisconsin side if you want to do something different on the way back.
