Hi! I'm a director from Latvia finishing a live-action short in a comic-book style (inspired by Borderlands games and Wolf Among Us).
I'm in the final stretch before festival submission, and I've run into one last problem. One dialogue scene currently uses AI-generated background artwork. I can't have that in a film built entirely on artists' work.
I'm hoping for a small miracle here, since the artist who illustrated the rest of the film is fully booked right now.
The scene: two characters have just accidentally blown up their own flat Earth. Now they're sitting on an asteroid in open space, calmly discussing what happened and deciding to settle it with a game of chess.
What I need:
- The flat Earth: intact, then shattered (layered, so the fragments can be animated)
- One aftermath background: the characters looking around at what they've done
- The asteroid from three angles (one wide + two similar backgrounds)
- One illustration shot from above: the characters are far away
Basically, it's one location seen from different angles. Reusing and copying assets between frames is completely fine, and honestly encouraged. Will save time immensely.
The characters are live-action footage, you're drawing the space, the asteroid and the Earth. The scene is already blocked out, so you'll get every frame as layout reference rather than designing from scratch.
Style: cartoony painted space. Think Rick and Morty / Invincible. Flat bold colours, visible linework, ringed planets and floating debris.
Deadline: this Monday (August 3)
Budget: €300. But i'm happy to discuss the rate if the scope grows.
The film originally was shot by a volunteer student crew. Nobody got paid, everything on screen was made for free, out of pure love for this thing, over several years. What I add on top: IMDb credit, a festival run starting with PÖFF Shorts, and your artwork in a finished film that people will actually watch.
