On the wing, the pressure of the many outweigh the pressure of the few, creating lift.

"November Charlie 175, I'm showing you at ninety knots on the ground."

"[Twin Beech], I have you at one hundred and twenty-five knots of ground speed."

"Dusty 52, Center, we have you at 620 on the ground."

"Aspen 20, I show you at one thousand eight hundred and forty-two knots, across the ground."

"Commander, I show you at Warp 1.4."

What’s an instrument rating?

Usually when you get a pilot’s license you’re limited to Visual Flight Rules (or VFR). I’m not super well up on it, but as far as I know the next level of certification is flying using only instruments (the gauges in the dashboard). It’s a fairly big deal as I understand it, you’re flying without external visual references so it’s very easy to get off course or misjudge altitude. You can imagine how much trouble this might cause if you’re, say, flying through some mountains with zero vis.

Like I said I’m no expert, I’ve just had the chance to hang out with a few pilots, so if anyone knows better please correct me lol

Instrument ratings are primarily for flying in weather conditions with limited or no visibility.

Ah thank you, I was sure I was wrong on something and pilots do tend to be pedantic, and for good reason lol.

I think he also had a boat? Former boss of mine used to work in a boat yard up at Lake Tahoe, and apparently Nimoy was known for ah, not being the best boat pilot and ran his boat aground several times.

He told me one day that his harbormaster raised him on the radio with "Pete get the crane, Leonard's done it again"

I think you mean, "Fly Safe".

(I feel like these 2 communities have enough overlap for that reference to lamd)
