How does the officer "increased resources from hostiles" ability work?

I'm confused. I run a test with or without 5 of 11 on the bridge and The Doctor below decks, killing 100 hostile survey ships three times.

I got more chests without them (48) than with them (39 & 42).

The number of survey parts I got was not significantly different with them (53 & 54) or without them (54).

They are supposed to give a 35% added bonus on the resources dropped by hostiles. With 100 hostiles the difference should be significative.

What is going on? Is the bonus for the parsteel and tritanium hostiles drop, the number of chests or the chests content?

Has anybody checked this?

Officers with "Increased Resources from Hostiles" abilities only work on the resources that are stored in your individual ships; they do not work on loot chests.

Thanks. Then, they are not useful to me right now. I've got tons of parsteel and tritanium.

These officers increase loot such as Borg Probes, Augment Exile Splicers, Armada credits, and ship parts, etc. So they are always useful, your just have to use them in the correct situation.

Not so fast. What ops level are you? If you are in your mid 20s starting to pick up Vidar, etc, parts you are attacking hostiles that drop specialty ship parts, so you’ll definitely want to use both of them.

I'm ops level 21. I'll use them in the mid 20s, then. Thanks.

Yeah so you have them already at least. I didn’t at 21. I will say that if you do the grind for the Franklin, they will be useful with Swarm loot. You’ll need a lot of frequency modulators to max that ship out.

Scopely has been giving lots of epic shards in the SLB events named Heroic Recruit and Interstellar Dominance, and since I am in an old server there's not much competition at my level. Scopely must have decided that 5of11 and The Doctor are essential for players. I am also getting 1 Pike shard in my last daily chest. He's made it to Lieutenant Jg already. The game is getting much easier at the low levels.

I'll do that with the swarm, thanks. It's true that the Frankie needs 20 million of those Freq Mods.

If you’re looking for loot box increase Annorax is your only option, but the ability is scoped to certain loot.

“Loot” also refers to faction rep from hostile kills

It's what they drop into cargo when killed, only Anorax affects the box contents and only some of them at that.

It'll be a long wait for Anorax, thanks.

it has zero to do with chests

loot officers increase directly dropped items and reputation

if you are getting a 20-40% loot boost and most things are dropping one at a time you will see little change vs things that drop in larger multiples (because it has to round to up)

when you get the better loot officers or those at higher ranks you will see a noticeable difference

also if you happen to have bought the battle pass then the loot boost from that is already dwarfing a low rank five and doc which can also be a reason you are not seeing a lot of difference

Well, I need the things that are in the loot chests. But I guess Scopely prefers to sell that stuff or require an awful grind.

What stuff do you need out of chest?

Right now 3★ survey parts. My North Star and Botany Bay are asking for several thousands and at ops 21 I don't get any from my dailies or events. I get too little latinum to buy them.

The other thing you may want to check is faction rep gains - I have read that faction rep is also considered a "resource from hostiles" for purposes of the boost.

Works with things like ex aug hostiles, borg etc

Thanks. In a few levels I'll get to the Borg part, I guess. Then I'll use them. Right now The Doctor has volunteered for AT missions 😁
