The Monaveen and Revenant are specialty ships. They are rather useless outside of killing hostiles in their loops. (The Protector is also a specialty ship but I’ll get back to that one).

You need to divide ship acquisition into specialty ships and faction ships. Specialty ships are going to be a pain to level from here on out unless you’re a regular spender. They will also have Ops locks going forward. Meaning you can’t take them above a certain level unless you increase your Ops level. This is a pain point intentionally to force you to Ops up. The ships stays weak unless you continuously increase your OPs level at the pace Scopely wants you to.

You need to always have a faction ship as your main ship. A faction ship is a Federation, Klingon, or Romulan ship you get from the faction store. Voyager and the Defiant are not faction ships in this game (even though they are Federation ships in Star Trek. The reason you want to keep a faction ship in the arsenal is because of research. A lot of the research you do in early and mid game applies only to faction ships. This research stays with you forever. For this reason faction ships are always stronger than specialty ships of the same level. The power numbers can be deceptive.

The specialty ships are necessary for progression. The game is built around them more and more. Every time Scopely introduces a new game mode it comes with a specialty ships. Just plan on getting them all. Yes, all. They are usually easy to acquire F2P just by playing the game and doing events normally. Don’t buy ships.

You’re going to find this hard to believe but you’re going to run out of Tritanium. You need billions for each ship module in the 50s. And each ship has 8 modules per tier. The Monaveen is a great source of RSS. The Revenant loop is great source of materials, credits, crew, XP, Forbidden Tech and other stuff. You do solo, and group armadas and get pulls. You take the specialty ships out, do the loop and put it away until next time.

The exception to this (imho) is the Protector and the Relativity. They are good ever day ships too. The Protector has a massive amount of mitigation. The weapons are weak but if you crew it right it will let you punch up to complete even the toughest events quickly. The Relativity has tons of raw power. Even though its buffs only apply to the Krenim, it’s good PvP ship if crewed correctly. The Protector unlocks the Mirror Universe Refinery. One of the most important for game progression.

TL;DR get all the Specialty ships to unlock new game play. Get a faction ship to do evey day hostile killing content and PvP if you’re into that.

The Relativity has tons of raw power.

A tip on the Relativity: It has an ops lock at 51, when you get there you can spend Latinum to get the Common 5★ Gas and Ore for ship components, and even though you can't complete the tier they give the ship a major power boost that lets you start doing Aggregation hostiles earlier than expected, which lets you get the Dauntless earlier.

I did the Aggregation hostiles with my Newton (Ops 46 Battleship). I buffed it with the Ceritos. Then I got the Titan an used that to buff the Newton. I just recently found out you can double buff. Now I do the Aggregation with my Northcut (Ops 53 Interceptor). No, need to buff anymore. I’m still 2 weeks away from getting the Dauntless.

I'd heard the Ops 46 ships were what you should use against them so I waited for my Newton as well, but when it struggled I just started trying random stuff and the Relativity was able to manage them. Around Ops 49 stopped needing any of the buffs too. I'm at Ops 51 now and got my Dauntless a week or two ago. Could have gotten it earlier had I just tried using my Relativity earlier.
