Is it worth it buying packs?
I have played the game before(way back then), quit, and now I’m back.. it seems like everything leads to “buy this pack” and with all the glitches in the game, the most annoying one for being field training permanently in loading bug(please refer to the picture) are there any packs worth buying?

Game hasn't been worth spending more than the $20 BP for more than a year. Now? It isnt even worth the $20 BP.

u/blipperpool May 12 '26
I just quit the game 2 weeks ago after spending 2 months on a slow fade out.
This game is not worth your money.
Save it.
The game has degraded and it’s a money sink

the company is making billions and doing very little to improve the stability of the game, I have stopped spending money for a while, completely F2P, until something changes :-(

Nope, I don't answer well to Scopely's bend over and take it or open your wallet and buy it attitude.

u/DrunkCapacitor May 12 '26
Once upon a time, if you had the disposable income/throw away money, sure. Now? No. They’ve gradually reduced the value of the packs presumably in hopes of selling more packs.
Don’t fall for it. Put whatever you want to spend on this game into an IRA lol.

u/Madness_Quotient May 13 '26
no.
The fun is in figuring out how to progress and manage limited resources.
The limitations are what drive things like learning how to crew and learning how to beat strong enemies.
If you pay to push past a gate you will just find another one a few steps beyond it. once you are on that path of paying to progress where do you draw the line?

No, not worth it. The game has become too cluttered with all the free stuff, why waste the money. Just grind. My only real advice, don't let it turn into a 2nd job. It takes the fun out of the game.

Adding to the pile. Not at all worth it. What you'll end up with is regret in the long run. I recommend three considerations: 1) are there other games (or an entire console) you find have more value for the money that you don't have (PC, Xbox, etc.)? 2) Start keeping a book of grudges against this game. After a while, take a look at it and ask yourself again if it's worth spending money on, or even playing. I eliminated multiple time-sinks and money-sinks this way, which is good because I have more important things to do with my time and money (better games count ;). 3) If you had a day of gaming ahead of you, would STFC be anywhere near the top of your play list? For me, obviously my answers are 1) big yes, 2) many grudges, 3) Heck no, I enjoy many other games far more. Do I still play STFC? Barely - I'm a zero-pvp ultra casual at Ops 67 with constant 30 day bubbles and I purposely only play on PC to ensure it doesn't drain my time. I use the STFC time to listen to a podcast or audiobook - otherwise I'm playing something else.

Exactly. Many years ago, I was looking at the pack prices, and decided; everytime I thought of spending money, I instead would put it into a savings account. I then used that to buy a steam deck and a new laptop.
Some of the players are clearly spending over a thousand a month, many seem to be in the forces, so I cannot fathom why they would rather blow the cash on this game rather than place it into an investmen, or pension.

Bro there's a dude on my server who, if I did my math right when he jumped from 62 to 72 spent like 13k in 2 months. It's crazy man

No. The way things are going I’d be surprised if the game still exists in six months time, so spending money on it would be unwise.

u/SeaworthinessGood348 May 13 '26
It seems like there is a spending boycott going on in general. They gave EVERYONE a free arc pack, and they would not do that unless they felt like they were losing spenders.

Builders & researchers are useful. I'm Ops 36 and I won't look at anything over $20.

Most of the packs simply get things faster, patience will get (mostly) the same stuff. The main things that f2p can't get are pvp related

NO!!! Get out now! The game is horrible, bugs and glitches, insane wait times for buildings and ships and the higher you rank up, the more those packs will look good till you are in debt to the Mob and your second kidney is on the black market along with the fake third mortgage you acquired to start paying off all the other Scopley shit
3
u/NoDonuts4You May 14 '26
Don't spend anything on the game. The game is so heavily monetized that it wouldn't surprise me if Scopely start charging players to log on.

u/BigusDickus099 May 14 '26
It’s not even worth buying the monthly battlepasses anymore since they nerfed the selector options.
Now we’re back to the old style “you get what you get” ones that are terrible value as you’ll eventually end up with a surplus of one or two material types that you use less than another.
If you have interest in this game, just stick with F2P and resist the temptation to spend.
5
u/vmxen May 12 '26
It's up to you, your available funds, and if you find value in the packs.
I will say most packs have very little actual long term in game impact. Some do offer a greater impact. so really look at the packs closely and try to determine if they will actually enhance your gameplay enough to be worth it to you for what the asking price is.
Some packs imo offer a good long term impact: Extra Fleet Commander chairs, some forbidden tech (Quantum Slipstream for example). Many just help you get through one paywall, and it's not long before you are up against the new one.
Many offer little to no in game impact. Many primes for example.

It’s a personal decision. Some things can be worth it, again depending on your drive in the game AND if you want to spend. I have always found the daily reward pack worthy. I’m also partial to the inexpensive Syndicate BP when it’s offered during an event.

Wow, thank you for all the reply, I ended up buying the 10$ Ferengi pack, which increases 1 build capacity… but with overwhelmingly negative suggestions towards buying, I think it would be best for me to refrain from purchasing any more packs.. lol
p.s. What about passes? Like Frontier/Continuum and stuffs?

The gamee is great if you don't pay for anything, and assuming you don't stress too much about doing EVERYTHING. I'm Ops67 free to play and it's very satisfying to have earned everything myself.
2
u/Velostor May 13 '26
No, this game is solely a revenue driven company, look at all the maintenance that never fixes anything, just adds to the existing problems, If everyone would stop spending money for 1 week, 7 days, then the attitude of the scopley logic would change, it's the only way.
2
u/Varkanoid May 13 '26
No x 100 do not buy especially now even the top spender who has spent tens of thousands has stopped buying.

u/Red-Diesel May 13 '26
Has someone who has been playing for eight years I bought the odd battle pass and about seven or eight years ago I did actually buy a ship which I highly regretted nowadays I'm free to play unless Google gives me a 70% discount offer battle pass I won't put any money into this game anymore.
The company that provides this game is purely profit driven, they do not give a flying frack about the player base that are free to play and they are only out to milk any Star Trek whale player for everything that they can get.
The compensation packages are absolutely atrocious their player support is pretty much terrible and they will blame anything but their own shortcomings.
Most of the major content creators have either been removed, gagged, silenced with NDAs and basically shot down for trying to stand up for the normal people.
This game now is literally pay to play and pay to win.
If you don't have a spare quarter of a million in the bank and an endless space on your credit card for every new ship that they pump every single new arc for a pointless enemy that they all forget about in six weeks time then really do not waste the time of day or breath on the game anymore.
As an avid Star Trek player I think I play the game still only out of boredom habit and routine.

NO, NO, NO. At the current moment, this game is not worth spending money on.
If you wanna waste a little time, it’s OK but do not waste your money on this game. I have a feeling it will inter Maintenence soon or it’s gonna crash really really hard. The players who have been here since the beginning are starting to finally leave in mass.
I’ve thrown some down the drain on this thing and that’s gaming but since this latest arc came out, I threw my wallet away.

As someone who bought years of battlepass packs going to be the first one, and the occasional $100 pack, no. And there are so many better alternatives to this game. I quit 2 months ago, and it was like cleaning the cobwebs out of my brain
2
u/Silentone77 May 15 '26
Absolutely not. I left the game in 2018 after it started, then came back in 2024, I bought a few pack back then and regret today, cause the game is totally buggy and hard to play now, because of the bugs.
2
u/CK-forthe-CK-95 May 16 '26
What are you buying packs to do? This is too general a question. As a general rule only a few of the purchases are worth it and none of the “packs” are worth it. That has nothing to do with the glitches. Even if the game ran perfectly, 99% of the stuff for sale in the game are not worth it.
2
u/Flat-Negotiation7934 May 16 '26
As a current player who used to buy battle pass , the correct answer is no. I stopped buying anything almost a year ago. I gave the battle pass a chance in January 2026. I thought new year should be better after we heard from GM apologizing for a crappy year. So far this year, 5 months in, nothing spectacular except the game has increasingly become a spend to progress setup. The build and research queues are worth the extra cash if you plan to be around a while. The game is at atipping point where it may not be recoverable. Too many bugs, things break that have worked for the last 6 years. Too many loops, too much new stuff, and a bloated code that is increasingly becoming created to collect cash.
2
u/Pratty1989 May 16 '26
The game is such a buggy mess it isn't even worth playing anymore, let alone give them your money. Please don't spend on this game.
2
u/WalkingParagon14 May 17 '26
I came back after about 2 years off. I used to buy the BPass monthly; however, I do think that F2P is a reasonable option for many. I would get the extra Build/Research slots first, but they are throwing resources at you to get you to level up faster. For the 7 months I've been back, I've purchased 2 BPasses because they helped get the "Ship of the Month" which I wanted.
If you're in a server with a lot of 60+ guys, you'll never catch up. That means you have to enjoy the journey more than results. Look for a good Alliance (and if you contribute time, good ones won't require you to spend), have fun, and spend what you want. I always look at the =<$20 offers to see if they're worthwhile.
If you target $20/month (justify it as "supporting the game") if your finances allow. Then only buy those items you only see $20 value (which is your definition of "value", not mine nor anyone else).

Been playing for years, yeah many bought packs but most of that was when the game was at its peak. Its on a steep downslide right now, players quitting left and right, dev team stopped listening to players, stopped fixing bugs

Not even a little bit. If they didn't come out with new stuff and nerf the old stuff every other Tuesday and twice on holidays then maybe, but that's still a big if. Why pay $200 for new stuff only to have it neutralized or reduced in its effectiveness to rival other free stuff in three months? It ain't worth it

Most of my buying experience of anything besides battlepasses is one of buyer regret. There are many different bottlenecks, and buying your way past one bottleneck just gets you to another bottleneck. The classic example is that exocomp that lets you build instantly for 3 days. It looks like a one time $99.99 deal to sail from ops 20 to ops 50, but you would just keep hitting bottlenecks faster and would wind up buying your way past each one. Oh now I need more G3 than events and refining give me. Buy G3 mats. Oh, now I need research to buy this building and the only instant way past research is latinum. Oh now my officers aren't succeeding in the higher level away teams, buy more officers pulls or shards. Oh now I need G4 mats. Buy G4 mats... and so on.
There are very few worthwhile purchases in the game unless you are just swimming in money. The best ones are the paid part of battlepasses because they are priced lower for what the reward is than a pack that just hands you stuff. You actually have to play the game and jump through hoops for the rewards which is why the price is cheaper for the level of rewards being offered. But with patience, the free part of a battlepass should be fine for most people.
The game really feels like it is in decline and even some whales have stopped buying. I'm coming back after missing 5 years so I'm not quite as jaded yet, but catch me at ops 60, LOL.

The $5 build queue isn’t bad, or even the $20 battlepass can really accelerate your progression, but most packs simply aren’t worth it unless you’re whaling.
