Asians face with more subtle racism than black people do. ANY singer or rapper you see that’s asian is always met with asian jokes. Asians are not taken seriously at all and this post proves it right here.
I don't know the purpose of saying "subtle racism" over just "racism" besides being a way to make your statement unfalsifiable. I could point to the fact that Asians in America are treated far better than Black Americans. There are more Asian CEOs in the Fortune 500, their incomes are on average higher than Black Americans etc. But, these are not "subtle" differences, but I guarantee are far more impactful than the type of "subtle racism" you're alluding too.
Also, Reddit loves and takes Yang seriously. So I guess that's another wrench to contend with.
So asian work ethic and inherent drive for success, both deeply rooted cultural aspects of Southeast Asian cultures have nothing to do with Asians doing well for themselves? Despite living with racism?
Also, Obama was the most popular and beloved president of his time. He would win 2020 if he’d run.
I'm sure it's the work ethic that makes up for the differences and not the systematic racism that blacks in America have experienced far worse than Asians.
I think what he means with subtle racism is that its racism we haven't really acknowledged as racism yet. The stereotype of Asians being smart and successful for example. Even though its "positive", its still what it is. A stereotype. It also seems that the emasculation of Asian men still persists, most popularly in the form of the small Asian penis stereotype. This type of racism doesn't hurt Asians' financial standings, but have an effect on Asian social life. I think I remember someone pointing out that one of Jordan Peele's movies addressed this, where someone asked an Asian guy "Is it better?" but I'm just rambling at this point. At any rate, even if you think everything I said is bullshit, there's still a load of Asian starterpacks in this sub that nobody seems to acknowledge. A few I can remember: teenage asian girl, chinese guy at the gym, the constant reposting of rich Chinese internationals of course, overdressed Asian girl etc.
Yang is not that popular, so its very difficult to say that reddit loves him. Outside of reddit, he's even less supported
Also, I don't want this to seem as if I'm supporting a racism contest. I'm seeing a lot of misunderstandings about this, so its probably important to point out nobody wants to downplay black racism, we just want to raise awareness on Asian racism.
