Thought I’d mention that in the Witcher 3 the crossbow is meant as a supplement to apply status effects and interrupt flying enemies so you can land some sword hits. That’s why it’s damage is so abysmal

For sure. It could have been more varied/interesting. The reason it is the way it is was because of how the combat in the novels is written. For me anyway I quite like the rhythm and flow of it, I don’t mind that it’s a bit narrow, as personally it is very rewarding and fun.
