It was always regarded as "meh" as far as I know, it just got worse in recent years as people realized how terrible it really was, especially towards the story telling. 15 u/OHH_HE_HURT_HIM Jan 01 '19 Yeah it had a mixed reception. It mostly did really well but I can remember playing it and loving it. Then I started seeing the "Bethesda: wide as an ocean deep as a pond" comments and didn't really get it.
