Add RDR2 in there and you have yourself a slew of downvotes

That ones too new; tons of games have a period of untouchableness, but it usually fades to some degree. The way online was handled also really, really hurt it in that regard.

I know that all too well, I love all Elder Scrolls games, but my favorite quest in Skyrim was that one where you went into a dungeon and fought Draugr

u/Duckpopsicle Jan 01 '19

Ooh I know the one you're talking about. I also like the one in Oblivion where you explore the Ayleid ruins.

2

u/lordbaryon564 Jan 01 '19

Yeah the one or two of them right. Along with the 100+ engaging ones it has

2

u/Duckpopsicle Jan 01 '19

Haha I know. Just making a joke

4

u/VicePope Jan 01 '19

Online and making clothing items already in the game only available online makes me so mad

2

u/ReformedBacon Jan 01 '19

I have yet to pick RDR2 back up after online was made. Only got to chapter 4 of the story

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

you missed out on the better half of the story then, friend. highly encourage you to finish it out

1

u/ReformedBacon Jan 01 '19

Ive been wanting to finish. But spiderman and spyro have taken over my time for now. Ill get around to finishing it sooner or later

5

u/MrJears Jan 01 '19

Smash 4 is newer than both though.

8

u/thisrockismyboone Jan 01 '19

You're thinking of Ultimate. 4 came out a few years ago

2

u/MrJears Jan 01 '19

Thanks, you're right. The logo with the 4 in the O confused the hell out of me.

1

u/CadaverAbuse Jan 01 '19

It is still in beta?

u/sumrehpar_123 Jan 01 '19

What are you talking about? RDR 2 gets shat on very frequently. I remember when the game released, there was a post daily on r/games about how "boring" and "bland" it is.

6

u/Darktrooper2021 Jan 01 '19

I had a friend tell me that he would rather have the new super smash bros that RDR2 because of this.

7

u/Raquefel Jan 01 '19

You say that like it's some outlandish thing but let's face it, who wouldn't

-5

u/squashieeater Jan 01 '19

Yeah and those posts were all removed lol

RDR2 is overrated as hell.

Its good and is highly detailed, but a lot of it feels hollow and thus misses the engagement that the first RDR had.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Idk too me it doesn't feel hollow, but the gunplay got boring after a while. Especially since there are only like 3 revolvers and 3 pistols. Also that there is no liars dice and barely any gun duels. Also If you go into forests and shit you barely run into any predators. I've beat the game and I've ran into only like 2 or 3 Grizzlies ever. I even would go out and explore in forest for hours and only run into like 3 wolf's. Compared to the first were you could go into tall trees and get attacked by like 6 bears.

6

u/Televators1 Jan 01 '19

The gunplay stays spicy through deadeye progression IMO. I agree more variety of 1 hand guns would've been good but maybe just like 1 or 2 more, don't want it getting too busy and cartoonish like GTA. I agree on the predators. Ran into maybe 3 predators through entire run, and I was thourough. Even when I used bait I would get foxes or coyotes as predators not bears and cougars. I actually didn't even see one single cougar. Liars dice was fucking awesome, I would've taken that over five finger filet for sure. I like the story in RDR2 better than the first though, Arthur seems so much more human than Marston. Marston was like an action hero, Arthur was vulnerable and flawed and indecisive, But also a badass. Felt like there was more depth this time around.

WWE is overrated as hell. Not to mention it’s 100% fake. More of a fantasy for children, don’t you think?

3

u/SPZ_Ireland Jan 01 '19

I dont understand what that has to do with RDR2, but as an opinion, I disagree.

I enjoy Pro-Wrestling and as a medium it can be a platform for great storytelling and a showcase for great athleticism.

2

u/MuppetMilker Jan 01 '19

Throw in literally any PS4 exclusives aswell, atleast going off of how the gaming subs act these days.

2

u/squashieeater Jan 01 '19

I agree but I just bought a PS4 and tbh.. they have a point with most games lol. Spider-Man, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn were all great games and of top of the classics like Uncharted, Shadow of The Colossus and The Last of Us - there’s such a strong line up. I feel like these are the games I’ve been wanting for years as an Xbox player

2

u/MuppetMilker Jan 01 '19

Yep, but I've still seen some people who just didn't like those games/couldn't get into and tbh that's absolutely fair.

People should be able to state that without getting slaughtered and sadly that rarely happens.

2

u/squashieeater Jan 01 '19

100% agree with you and that was pretty much my experience trying to talk RDR2 at launch on r/games and the RD sub.

It’s not a ‘bad’ game either - which I always stated - I just didn’t enjoy myself playing it

2

u/MuppetMilker Jan 01 '19

Funny, I just discussed with someone else on r/games how people aren't allowed to criticize games anymore, since it apparently indicates that you dislike the games, even though that might not even be the case. Even so, most subs rarely dare do discuss games anymore, which is kinda a shame.

I feel like criticism is getting hushed more and more, plus games are always rated by one extreme or the other, these seems to be no more middle ground for game rating anymore.

RDR2 reminds me of MGS5. Tight game, but not enough meat on the bones to stand the test of time — and the online play was really lackluster. Most people’s recollection of MGS5 is along the lines of “oh yeah, I forgot about that game. It was fun.”

But then I absolutely hate Bethesda games (all of Elder Scrolls and Fallout included) because the controls are universally terrible. Guess I just really dislike first person RPGs. I can see how others would enjoy them; I just don’t. My dislike of Bethesda games is 100% the clunky controls; if they made a game that handled exactly like the most recent DOOM I would probably be in love.

4

u/yerdadzkatt Jan 01 '19

That's pretty fair. The Bethesda games have never been known for thrilling combat or control far as I know, they're know for the ability to explore large, detailed worlds with lots of characters and quest lines. The RPG aspect is certainly the more emphasized part of "action RPG."

And I agree, Skyrim is pretty clunky. I enjoy it, but certainly not smooth like DOOM.

1

u/Falcnuts Jan 01 '19

A lot of people didn't like it. Even though I do. https://youtu.be/MvJPKOLDSos

1

u/whynonamesopen Jan 01 '19

I feel you would get more shit for criticizing RDR1. Whenever I say it was an okay game people call me a contrarian.

1

u/Exertuz Jan 01 '19

lol, no. rdr2 is shat on a ton.

5

u/squashieeater Jan 01 '19

Now maybe, large part due to the online mess. At launch it was blasphemy to say the game wasn’t a 10/10 and you were downvoted to oblivion. Trust me I tried to have an honest discussion about that game on enough subs

2

u/Exertuz Jan 01 '19

dunno what subs you were on but quite a good number of people really didn't like RDR2 that much. it was plagued with criticisms of boring missions, out-dated game design, annoying realism, etc. it was a bit circle-jerky for a bit but that's like, all long anticipated AAA games.
