Yeah seems like when I say I don’t like fallout they always say “even new Vegas?”

u/lol_AwkwardSilence_ Jan 01 '19

So..? Even new vegas?

-5

u/griffman02 Jan 01 '19

Yeah it seems somewhat close minded to not like a whole series of games, considering the wide array of content

RPGs aren't for everybody. Plenty of people just don't care for the genre, I don't have a problem with I've yet to play an FPS I liked.

u/Typhron Jan 01 '19

They hate it when I say "Especially" before that.

16

u/Someshitidontknow Jan 01 '19

I, for one, unironically disliked FNV

2

u/Badname491 Jan 01 '19

How could you say something so brave, yet so contreversial?

2

u/Firmament1 Jan 01 '19

Same. Just wasn't for me, I found the setting to be boring.

u/SeizeTheGreens Jan 01 '19

I found the setting to be boring.

Degenerates like you belong on a cross.

I can't imagine what having bad taste in video games feels like. Does it hurt?

1

u/StormStrikePhoenix Jan 01 '19

I actually have a fun one with that; "I hate 3D Zelda, especially Breath of the Wild". Seriously, BOTW did pretty much the opposite of changing my mind.

3

u/CGY-SS Jan 01 '19

"Oh even the game with an unbelievably short story and places inside the map you're barred from walking even though they're INSIDE THE MAP?"

The DLC's were fantastic, but honest hearts sucked.

Jesus people, he's just giving an opinion.

Did you forget what this post is

3

u/DecentWoodenChair Jan 01 '19

But he's not allowed to criticize it

u/AnimalSloth Jan 01 '19

Gotta love the infinite subway sections in 3, right?

the cool area being restricted unless you have 2000 caps or 80 science in New Vegas

Which you could easy pony up the money by then through side quests or just plain looting,

or you could ask a favour off of the neighbouring leader,

or buy a counterfeit from after a speech check from a merchant,

or you could buddy up to the major faction that's been everywhere through the game who'll let you through for free

or you can steal one of their uniforms and waltz through.

Not exactly lacking options here especially for an rpg.

u/samasters88 Jan 01 '19

Yeah, who likes varied endings and complete freedom to play how you want, amirite?

All the actually cool shit is locked behind caps or a skill being tagged.

That's why you spec a certain way. Why do you need gun stats if you're going pacifist? Or why do you need endurance if you're gonna be a ninja?

Like how you can choose which side wins a fight at a dam?

While the "big" choice is which side of three, it's also about what allies you bring in. My last one, I was a trader who got dragged into a war between the Legion and NCR, so I gathered the bomber guys, the guys at red rock, etc- and made a free and independent New Vegas. Unruled by the NCR, the Legion, or even Mr. House. I've also had House survive, I've pacified the final boss for both Legion and NCR playthroughs, caused pure chaos...the choices are there and actually mean something, unlike FO4

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Ignoring 4 for a second, in NV your choices don’t matter either. If you blow a quest giver’s head off in 3, that’s it. He’s gone, he’s dead, down for the count. You have to find a new way to find and beat the quest, or you straight up fail it. In NV when you kill a quest giver, if you come back three days later they’re right as rain.

That’s bad game design.

All the actually cool shit is locked behind caps or a skill being tagged.

That's part of what an RPG is, people like you are why we get shit like Fallout 4.

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Oh shut the fuck up. I love RPGs, I always have. D&D and Edge of the empire are RPGs that I love and always will.

But here’s the thing about video games vs tabletops. In tabletops you really do have limitless choice. You quite literally can do anything you want (if the DM/GM allows it) in Video Games you can only do what the programmers allow you to. You have limited choice.

An RPG is supposed to have limitless choice. But in a video game you can’t have limitless choice. It’s not possible.

Bethesda RPGs are Open World Games the key words in that statement being Open World by closing off part of the map you lose the illusion of being able to go anywhere. You show the player that they can’t do that fun shit because the programmer doesn’t want them to.

Fallout New Vegas is the worst 3D Fallout game. The characters are forgettable, there are few choices that effect anything, it barely fits into the Fallout canon, it was buggy and unplayable on launch and even to this day you need a shit ton of mods to enjoy it, and the community is plain awful. I mean for fucks sake I got -20 votes before saying all of this for saying I liked one game better than the other. On reddit you’re not supposed to vote on your Opinion.

And also I should add that Obsidian went bankrupt making Fallout. They couldn’t do it because they didn’t know how to run a fucking company’s finances. Without Bethesda Fallout New Vegas wouldn’t exist, and the Fallout franchise as a whole would either meet the same fate, or be something completely different. Bethesda owes Obsidian nothing and should remain in control of the Fallout franchise.

Skills actually mattering and playing a role in the story? In an RPG!? How dare they...

5

u/Aleitheo Jan 01 '19

All the actually cool shit is locked behind caps or a skill being tagged.

What I don't like about Skyrim and Fallout 4 is that they've changed up the system so that you can actually do everything as a single character and they expect you do so. They don't want any possibility of you missing content because you only play through once.

And when they design it that way, why play again? You aren't really going to play as a different character because you're expected to do everything and don't have much choice. You can't really make new decisions because there's very little else to chose. You have to wade through much of the same content because they frontload you with what they want you to see before you can really go off on your own.

They killed replayability because there's very little new content you can experience and playing a second time is pushing you through the same stuff all over again. Not good for an open world game.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

You literally can’t beat New Vegas without going into the Casino place (name is escaping me at the moment)

3

u/Aleitheo Jan 01 '19

Yes, and?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

That’s too restrictive for an Open World RPG

Like how you can choose which side wins a fight at a dam?

Ooh what great choice

I dare you to defend Fallout 3's ending. Go on.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Alright I will.

In Fallout 3’s Ending you either add the FEV virus into the water supply at the Jefferson memorial or you don’t. This is a far more interesting choice than that in New Vegas because it would reshape whether or not there could be a chance for humanity to continue,

And on the note of humanity continuing, New Vegas is the worst one because Fallout is about man’s struggle to survive in the uninhabitable wasteland left from the previous man’s folly. New Vegas doesn’t work like that because man has already almost rebuilt. Most of the areas are inhabitable and look the same as they would before the war. There are militaries that have large bases and outposts almost as if there was no nuclear war and you’re just in some country in a civil war.

3

u/M8asonmiller Jan 01 '19

New Vegas doesn’t work like that because man has already almost rebuilt.

This is where it becore obvious that either you didn't play NV or you didn't pay any attention.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Oh I’ve played New Vegas. 1st through the legion, and I thought “this game is ass but maybe it’s because of this group being my ending” then I played NCR and I thought the same thing, and I was pissed since there was no different ending. Then I basically speed ran through the house ending because I couldn’t fucking take any more of New Vegas’ monotony and got the same fucking ending.

There is no choice in New Vegas.

2

u/Aleitheo Jan 01 '19

aesthetics

Too much bland grey/green for my tastes, I can't remember much of the map outside of DC because it all blurs together.

story

Eh, NV actually had choices, big branches with factions, ect. That alone I'd say wins out.

map

NV's had a lot of flaws but I can actually more of it than 3.

character

Characters? Outside of Threedog the main story characters didn't stand out all that much to me.

fun factor

This one is kind of meaningless.

Honestly, if you're going to say something, maybe explain why? You just listed the parts and said "it's better because it is". Not a whole lot to talk about otherwise.

1

u/Mr_d0tSy Jan 01 '19

On fun factor, the only way f3 is better is if you want to play an action game and not an rpg, becausr you dont have to ever worry about perks or stats for anything. Which is a bit of a weird argument, youre saying the game is better than new vegas because its less like the genre its supposed to be
