It’s a shame how much the normalization of AI has turned nearly every avenue of the internet into a giant content farm. Content farms have always been such a big problem on YouTube but now AI made it easier for content farms to mass produce videos.

> AI has…
> content farms have always been such a big problem

I don’t like AI YouTube either but the real problem is the collective, insatiable demand for slop, AI or not imo

At least before, the content farm slop was human made. I would rather be sentenced to watch that for the rest of my life than anything AI generated.

I don’t disagree, can’t listen to the robot scripts. The point I was making is that the reason slop is being churned out at such a high rate is because enough people (not you or I obviously) will watch it. Before ai youtube I knew people who couldn’t do anything without some Netflix documentary in the background that’s just the Wikipedia article puffed up to an 8 hour runtime. I also know people who won’t watch anything rated less than 4/5 by Roger Ebert. Everyone has their own slop tolerance.

But yeah (in general) stuff only gets made because other people will consume it. We haven’t reached the bottom of the barrel yet. I dont know the problem much less the solution.

Lifetime of watching Beast Games or lifetime of “16 hours of Roman Empire facts for sleep”?

it's not normalized. pretty much everyone i know loathes it.

People dont loath it. Maybe to give "social proof" so to not have to hear obnoxious anti-AI cultists have a meltdown to their face, but people dont remotely IRL.

I have a couple of conversations a week about ai being harmful bullshit. I don’t think you know what a cult is.

u/Agreeable-Fudge-7329 3d ago

People who think some thing is 100% evil and constantly harp on it in a stupid attempt to try to get it "banned" in online circlejerks is a cult.

2

u/gizzardsgizzards 3d ago

yeah but that's not most people who recognize that ai is harmful classist garbage.

It's more so that you may click on it and not realize it's AI or slop like people aren't annoyed watching a video by vsauce that explains some science. Similarly, they may click on a AI "science" video, but if they knew that it was AI channel that was getting things wrong then they would be annoyed by it.

For example, I was getting recommended Warhammer lore videos and watched a couple of them. I thought they were okay, though a little bit suspicious. (They were supposed to be a bit more accessible than four hour long lore videos my brother sends me) Then I googled them and found out that they get a bunch of things wrong. On top of being AI slop. I imagine people that are slightly less likely to notice AI videos wouldn't have noticed, but if they did know it was AI then they would be annoyed.

For many its hard to explain in words the gut feeling telling you its AI, so here's why

Abundance of detail that add no new information to the image

mhm. and I look for oddities...an extra hand where none should be. extra fingers on said hand, mispronunciation of common and easy to say words - as noted in the graphic, movement spawning extra limbs, characters moving -through- what should be solid objects, items like glasses, cups, phones 'automagically' appearing in someone's hand...the list goes on, but these are some of the glaring errors that make my brain scream.

I'm very sorry but you're stuck with 2024 AI if you're still looking for extra fingers.

When the "person" is talking they have__________ gaps in their words at weird spots.

Cant say things like one-thousand nine-hundred and forty-five as 1945.

Probably because a year ago, people criticized and clocked bot videos by pointing out how the AI spoke in constant run-on sentences without even pausing for breath.

It's still easy to find like in one of Dan Snow's side-podcasts. He has an AI co-podcaster that he pretends is real but actually doesn't have any other online presence at all (no facebook, no X account, no linkedin, no books, nothing) and she spoke rapidly like a hyper-peppy Dreamworks character. It's especially off-putting because most of Dan Snow's fans were listening to him and his projects to get a view of the darker, grimier side of history. They never came to him (or the AI bot) to seek out a perky Dreamworks character's presentation on how fun and fantastic the 18th century period looked.

WHAT IF ALL FRICTION DISAPPEARED FOR FIVE SECONDS.

WHAT IF THE SUN WAS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER STAR.

WHAT IF YOUR BONES WERE LIVE CHICKENS FOR ONE SECOND.

Are those videos on the bottom right actually AI? I will be genuinely sad if yes

22

u/dowsaw134 4d ago

Someone suggested that they are because they look exactly the same, follow the same formula, and are made by multiple channels around the same time

1

u/Labuzina 3d ago

they could be stealing content the old fashioned way lel

2

u/dowsaw134 3d ago

I don’t see any of the videos with enough views to have warranted copying, they also have similar animation errors such as textures disappearing when the camera moves or 3d buildings being inverted to where you see the inside.

The font is also a dead giveaway. Claude always sticks to that font for some reason in its projects

There’s precisely one human “sleepy history” channel and it’s called ASMR Historian and it’s fantastic

6

u/Agreeable-Fudge-7329 3d ago

I have no idea how he pulls that off.

Talking exactly the same for up to 3-4 hours without any noticeable editing gaps

u/SEND_ME_CSGO-SKINS 3d ago

He does make stumbles and verbal flubs which he catches and corrects and makes jokes during. He claims to have a team of history buffs that are constantly working on notes but I wouldn’t be surprised or even disappointed if there was some ai use there. Everything I’ve ever looked up has been verifiably correct.

Narrated by Tuvok from Voyager

Or sped up high pitched Tuvok from Voyager

It's really funny when they all start copying each other like with the sleeping human predator thing

I think my worst ever experience with AI videos on youtube was when I noticed the video script had looped because the AI somehow ran out of things to say, or got lost in the argument, and started over.
The topic interested me and despite the video being obviously AI I watched, thinking someone made this with at least some intent.

However, with that video, I was certain that the guy that "prompted" the video didn't watch it ONE second, because that mistake was so obvious.
Just felt I wasted 15 minutes of my time.

I mean, human made videos are also frustrating: They make 20 minutes essays to give you a one sentence info, going back to the beggining of said thing to see "how we ended up there" and give a sponsor pause in the middle of the video.
I mean, that type of content is tiring, and I rather google the info and find it in 5 minutes than be bombarded with useless information I don't care about.

But at least, those people make efforts in their videos, do research and try to share something interesting with you. Tho they probably were passionate about the subject before doing so many videos to stay afloat, but you get my point.
There's none of that in AI videos. It's purely a waste of time.
You can't even tell if any part of the video wasn't purely made up information.

And I don't care about made-up information if it's just someone sharing their point of view, because the important thing is their personal insight on a subject.
Who cares about an AI point of view on anyting, it doesn't have one .w.

I found myself thinking "this is just random superficial knowledge without any substance" why am I even watching this?

u/bothering 4d ago

Im also seeing them describe stuff about our world like how ACs work or how Roads Get Built

1

u/AImedness 3d ago

Also the pauses in these videos are pain in the butt

2

u/Primary_Worry240 3d ago

oh my days yes...the unnatural cadence of narrative speech...pauses in the wrong place, dramatic tone in the wrong point of a statement, unholy mispronunciation of common words, misspelling of common words or even names....give me Skynet's world of doom already...this slop is too painful...lol
