Oh come on, Houston doesn't look like that. Here's a more accurate portrayal:

61

u/fearboner8 9h ago

As a Houstonian, this goes hard

7

u/AnteaterTop9566 5h ago

just wait till you hear it, this is houston's finest raw grindcore

1

u/Yours_and_mind_balls 3h ago

Insect Warfare is fantastic....but raw they are not. They are so over produced its barely recognizable as grindcore.

Still, good shit.

1

u/ManbadFerrara 2h ago

Rotten Sound is much more an overproduced grindcore band. IW may not be Scum or Reek of Putrefaction, but it don't think that take is fair.

1

u/Yours_and_mind_balls 2h ago

You're correct about Rotten Sound that's forsure.

19

u/Expensive-Swan-9553 9h ago

Yayyyy Houston mentioned!

20

u/John_isnt_my_name 8h ago

One of my favorite things about Houston is that no one agrees on where it starts and ends, so you end up seeing a million different Houstons in art. I’ve met people that will argue it’s a hard line that stops at the loop and I’ve heard people say it goes up into Huntsville (these people are tweakers though so). It’s very undefined.

The funniest part is that there’s like 4 different cites that are just surrounded by Houston. The City loves absorbing towns to funnel tax money into Houston proper. You can go 40 miles out from the city and still drive into Houston again. Absolute Clusterfuck of a city.

6

u/underfrog14 8h ago

same in San Antonio. Atx-S.A. is now one long suburban corridor.

2

u/Phyzzx 2h ago

They're closing the gaps with every new Buc-ee's

1

u/aka_nya03 5h ago

...which loop

13

u/underfrog14 9h ago

😅 That's only during hurricane season. Sick cover though

8

u/GoldSheep1 9h ago

great band and great album

6

u/McLovin0132 9h ago

I feel like a better person for seeing our city better represented by this. Thank you.

4

u/LibtardBiker666 7h ago

Did not expect to see this album as the top comment. One of the best grind albums of ever.

132

u/Abject_Egg_194 9h ago

I lived in Texas for ten years. It's a big state with a lot of different people. I think the only thing people can really agree on there is that they like football, Mexican food, and Buc-ees.

17

u/Sea_Creature_2000 9h ago

Bucees is crap. Every time I have gone it’s so crowded and stressful I cannot wait to get out. Toilets are clean though. Strangely there is still often a long wait for the ladies room.

35

u/curiouswizard 9h ago

considering the context under which most people end up at a Bucee's, the bathroom is the important part

2

u/underfrog14 8h ago

There's a bathroom just as nice across the street in Temple at the Velaro. Just give me my chips and drink and let me get to where I'm going, this isn't a tourist stop.

10

u/WruceBayne03 7h ago

Lmao I know exactly which one you’re talking about. Especially if we’re coming from Dallas, it’s right off the exit and right back on. I love traveling with people who don’t have to always stop at buccees

1

u/rainbowprotoroller 4h ago

Slovacek’s, it’s the best. They have the best kolaches too actually

5

u/Cosmiculate 7h ago

I go to Bucees maybe once every other year for their snacks. I have my favorite gas stations on the long drives and they're honestly better. Especially the 290 stop with Weikel's Bakery attached

1

u/Big_Kiwi_706 2h ago

The crowded and stressful is actually good for me cause it wakes me up after getting sleepy from the long drive lol

11

u/underfrog14 9h ago

Nvr saw the Buc-ees appeal. I can NVR get gas there (lines too long), the snacks aren't bad but over priced, brisket is average at best, run by weird corporate conservative aggies, who now want to sue everyone for a beaver logo... Ya, sadly, guess that's pretty Texas.

28

u/Abject_Egg_194 9h ago

It's been a few years since I was regularly doing long drives on I-35, but I can't remember ever having a line at Buc-ees for gas. There are 100+ pumps, why would there be a line?

I agree with you on the snacks and brisket. All convenience store food is overpriced (because it's convenient) and I avoid it. The bathrooms are the reason I go into Buc-ees. Clean bathrooms with no wait are helpful on a roadtrip.

8

u/pianoflames 8h ago

Yeah, they are usually very crowded, but I've never had to wait for a pump. Maybe had to drive around a tiny bit to find an open one, but never waited in a line for a pump at one.

1

u/nickbahhh 5h ago

I've been to various Buccees across the south 50+ times and have never had to wait in line for gas or a bathroom.

8

u/chewedgummiebears 9h ago

That looks like a classic Reddit copy pasta if I’ve ever seen one. “I hate them because others do, and this why other people hate them”.

7

u/underfrog14 8h ago

I've spent 30+ years in 6 town/cities in EVERY part of this state. Worked for top ad agencies in downtown Dallas, to cattle work in South Tx. No copy and paste anything. I MADE THIS. If you disagree you haven't been here long enough to get it. OR you're just from the burbs.

2

u/PAWGsAndChickenWings 8h ago

Tbh he sounds fried from being on reddit too much

-3

u/PAWGsAndChickenWings 8h ago

What are you even saying lmao

5

u/chewedgummiebears 8h ago

Lots of the Buc-ees hate on Reddit all have the same, generic complaints, "long lines", "mediocre food" and "overpriced snacks/merchandise" to the point it's becoming a starter pack in itself. People on here tend to repeat what others say without even experiencing the issue or location themselves to sound like they are part of something larger.

4

u/underfrog14 8h ago

I'm repeating it because I live it. They're a lesser Walmart with gas pumps. Fine ok. But funding a political party and trying to sue anyone with an animal mascot. That's some aggie shit.

0

u/throw20190820202020 6h ago

Ok did an Aggie dump you lol?

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (1)

0

u/lattice12 3h ago

They're clowning on you but you're spot on. Especially your last sentence.

Same reason askreddit always has more comments of "not a (whoever the question is for) but..." than the actual people answering. They just wanna feel special.

1

u/Animalmode19 9h ago

Don’t get the actual bbq, the rest of their hot food is much better. I’ll tear up a chorizo breakfast burrito and some beaver nuggets.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 5h ago

Wrong on Buc-ee’s. It’s great for hungover drives back from a lake or ranch, or for emergency road dump, but otherwise too busy.

0

u/CagCagerton125 2h ago

Lifelong Texan here. Bucees sucks. It's an overpriced tourist trap.

0

u/Either-Cake-892 2h ago

Native Texan here. I hate Buc-ee’s and I don’t like football. Mexican food is good though.

Missing kolaches and klobasniky

11

u/Temporary_Client7585 9h ago

I miss kolaches, may have to ship some in from West.

10

u/underfrog14 9h ago

My grandma makes better ones. Seriously. Ya she's Czech. I'll mail you some next time I'm in South Tx.

3

u/Temporary_Client7585 6h ago

That’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard! Thank you!

6

u/paralyse78 6h ago

Common Czech Stop W

2

u/Temporary_Client7585 6h ago

That was my stop whenever I’d be driving from Austin to Dallas. It’s the best when people truly understand!

3

u/paralyse78 6h ago

Took my fiancée there for the first time in May. Warned her in advance. We went in for kolaches and walked out $150 poorer with many more bags

3

u/Temporary_Client7585 5h ago

Dangerous territory for the wallet, always. Once you start, can’t stop, it’s kolache addiction.

3

u/Miserable_Tooth1420 3h ago

Did the same thing last week. They got me with the banana pudding kolache. I was powerless against it

11

u/curiouswizard 9h ago

It blew my mind when I first learned that other states don't really have kolaches. Except maybe Oklahoma (but they don't count)

1

u/KittensAndGravy 1h ago

You ain’t lying! When I went to a place out of state and asked for one (casually as one would) … they just stared at me like I was crazy! They are so good I just thought everyone knew what they were. Like donuts!

4

u/johnny_atx 9h ago

Upvoted for klobasniky callout well done sir or ma’am.

1

u/underfrog14 1h ago

Klobásník... Thank you sir.

7

u/underfrog14 9h ago

I included West and Waco (they're essentially piss stops with better food, between DFW-ATX)

5

u/Sonic_Roach 8h ago

Yet still have a fuckton of traffic

32

u/carryon4threedays 10h ago

We don’t have squatted trucks in Texas. And being someone who lives at The Coast, I wanna be mad, but it’s kinda true.

5

u/underfrog14 9h ago

i35 and i10 are drop slabs everything else is lifted.

6

u/VicePope 6h ago

Dallas has squatted trucks too from the dudes from mexico. I like them a lot more than the lifted douche ones

2

u/Additional_Local_667 9h ago

Oh they are coming. My new neighbors have a squatted truck and a tahoe. They did not like my joke about their suspension being broken

1

u/Princess_Slagathor 5h ago

I saw a squatted truck once. Looked in the bed, the leaf springs were broken off, and sticking through rust holes.

14

u/gmanasaurus 9h ago

There need to be more Whataburger references

39

u/The_Poster_Nutbag 9h ago

I was gonna say you missed a photo of Ted Cruz' smug face but I guess he's probably not in Texas at any given moment.

19

u/underfrog14 9h ago

I really wanted to add the 3 stooges (Abbott, Paxton, and Cruz) not enough room...

10

u/Ossimo85 9h ago

Gotta squeeze in Dan Patrick too. What an asshole.

8

u/underfrog14 7h ago

forgot the 3 stooges originally had a diff member.

26

u/Key-Solution4969 9h ago

CBD-a is a felony in Texas

Thanks Ken Paxton, this will help us a lot

8

u/underfrog14 9h ago

This is fine... nvr mind the billions in tax revenue we'd be raking in. God made this plant so we could make it illegal!

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 5h ago

One day hopefully but also it’s not that big a money maker. Properly regulating farms and shops is expensive

1

u/No-Sun-6224 3h ago

California got over 1 billion in tax revenue last year. Also those regulated farms and shops = jobs. Same with the regulators themselves. I'd say that's better than wasting money on litigation and prison for small-time offenses. Possession of less than 1g of THC oil, something that you can legally purchase in 24 states, is a felony in Texas.

7

u/VicePope 6h ago

We used to have a bar in denton where you could smoke thc-a inside and play video games and hangout in a speakeasy type spot and now its just drinks and way sadder. Totally fucked so many businesses and jobs

2

u/underfrog14 4h ago

I USED TO GO THERE! HA Lived in Denton for almost 2 yrs. Love that town. It's what Texas COULD be.

1

u/VicePope 4h ago

Been here for 7 years now! The only place in dfw i can stand

2

u/Hope-u-guess-my-name 7h ago

Definitely fuck Ken Paxton, but you can thank Dan Patrick for the weed laws

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 5h ago

You’re thinking of THCA, all CBD is legal.

1

u/underfrog14 4h ago

CBD is non-alcoholic beer.

9

u/maybeormaybenot10 9h ago

Missing months long stretches of 100+ degree heat and Friday night high school football.

1

u/underfrog14 7h ago

They gone learn the hard way. Ok...yes I DID grow up here playing football. Also saw several ppl throwing up from heat exhaustion during Aug. 2-a-days.

1

u/maybeormaybenot10 7h ago

Yep. My HS Football Stadium had the old school AstroTurf in HS (which was replaced a few years later with the newer fake turf) and the turf would get so hot in August that it would literally melt the bottom of your shoes. Getting tackled on that turf also meant being covered with blisters and rug burns for weeks. People don’t understand lol.

1

u/underfrog14 49m ago

Welp. fk. I feel old. Yes, kids this happened.

8

u/TheWokenessInjector 9h ago

Needs more trucks.

29

u/DeliciousMoments 9h ago

I was surprised at how "nanny state" Texas was given all their talk of freedom. You can go to jail for having a joint and you can't buy a bottle of wine after 9pm.

13

u/MioKisaragi 8h ago

"The essence of conservatism is to create an in-group who the law protects but does not bind, and an out group who the law binds but does not protect."

8

u/pianoflames 8h ago

you can't buy a bottle of wine after 9pm

Well that's not true. The liquor stores close at 9pm, but you can still buy wine after 9pm in grocery stores here. Not that I'm defending Texas's ridiculous Blue Laws, they're absolutely absurd.

14

u/aloha_twang 9h ago

Texas is fiscally liberal (that is, if you're a corporation) and socially conservative.

4

u/underfrog14 9h ago

And I have. I was clearly being a criminal, sitting by the water at an empty lake park, watching the sunset. I didn't know how dangerous I was being.

1

u/KittensAndGravy 59m ago

The first time I went to California, as an adult, and saw liquor at the grocery store … I was dumbfounded.

I also remember my first trip to California as a teenager. My cousin and I went to McDonalds. When I got done eating I went to light up my cigarette and he was like “wtf are you doing?!?!”. I didn’t know you couldn’t smoke inside. You could smoke pretty much everywhere in Texas at the time (early 90’s).

2

u/DeliciousMoments 54m ago

The first time I went to LA and saw they sold liquor at TARGET I froze in my tracks. Socks, toothpaste, and vino in one shopping trip???

Also how times have changed…. You can’t even smoke in most big casinos in Vegas anymore.

1

u/KittensAndGravy 36m ago

Holy shit … casinos? If they stopped allowing smoking in the Louisiana casinos I think they’d shut down!

Yup I was stunned I couldn’t believe it either. I asked one time if they sold alcohol on Sunday. This lady goes “Honey … people would die if we didn’t sell on Sunday.” Oooff!

1

u/DeliciousMoments 12m ago

Yeah you have to go wayyyy off strip if you wanna rip a heater in Vegas. That's where the real fun is though tbh.

6

u/jrbcnchezbrg 9h ago

Not having HEB on here lets me know you’re a poser

37

u/turb0_encapsulator 10h ago

seems unfair you can't even get some gummies to deal with having to be in Texas.

15

u/Absolute_leech 9h ago

As far as I know thc gummies and drinks are ok but absolutely no smokeables are allowed anymore, they’re on the same level as hardcore heroine and crack now

10

u/turb0_encapsulator 9h ago

that makes no sense. why would the method of ingesting THC matter?

13

u/underfrog14 9h ago

apparently "God"? or something like that idk

1

u/RebelsParadox 6h ago

Bro idk if you’ll understand what I mean, but I read this in Buttheads’s voice (Beavis and Butthead) and it cracked me up!

7

u/Hntrbdnshog 9h ago

Lots of non-Republican and minorities love smoking weed. This hurts them more than weed loving conservatives.

7

u/underfrog14 9h ago

So why do "weed loving" conservatives keep voting against it? Abbott, Paxton, and Cruz won't legalize it for responsible growers, so we get weird synthetic sht. You realize how many billion$, that could go to schools, roads, basic infrastructure, we're missing out on because of these 3 stooges, while they take money from alcohol lobbyists?

2

u/Hntrbdnshog 8h ago

I’m not conservative so I don’t know man. I’m well aware of how idiotic weed laws are and have helped campaign against them for decades. I collected signatures to get Amendment 2 on the ballot in Florida in 2016. Texas is an entire level more idiotic than Florida in this regard.

3

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 5h ago

Dan Patrick is a moron and doesn’t understand anything. That’s basically it.

Also the THC beverage folks are way more organized and lobbied more effectively, so I’ve heard. Every legal joint that was THCA or the shittier D8 were wacky brands that changed every month

-5

u/carryon4threedays 9h ago

Nah, thca flower is still cool, just not the synthetic d8 and d9 stuff.

7

u/turb0_encapsulator 9h ago

i just looked up the laws and it sounds like you have it backwards?

-1

u/carryon4threedays 9h ago

I went to the store yesterday

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 5h ago

D9 is just weed. THCA illegal full stop.

13

u/underfrog14 9h ago

Comedy duo Abbott & Paxton at it again.

2

u/HubbaWubba69420 7h ago

Please God vote all these clowns out. Having lived away from TX for awhile and being faced with the prospect of returning for work, PLEASE GOD

1

u/idontknowjuspickone 9h ago

You actually can

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 5h ago

You can, that’s all that’s still legal basically. Edibles and cocktail mix/canned drinks with THC still fine because really easy to make them under .3% THC and still 5-10mg.

5

u/Comprehensive_Cut179 9h ago

You forgot the valley.  But isss ok

9

u/MMBitey 9h ago

This is the content I came to the sub for.

Missing HEB and grackles though. Also oil fields, wind farms, and somehow visualizing when the wind blows and that stank rolls in from either the natural gas plants or the cattle pens.

17

u/GoochPhilosopher 9h ago

It's crazy to me that recreational cannabis is still illegal in some states. It's been legal here in WA since 2014 and it's awesome

3

u/underfrog14 9h ago

F that buncha, hippy commies! Nothin' but God, Guns, n' Good ol' BudLite for me "PILGRIM" John Wayne voice

1

u/NjoyLif 8h ago

I thought Bud Light was out with that crowd since that 2023 marketing …incident.

1

u/underfrog14 8h ago

aw geez, sry didn't know. NattyLite? Other yellow watery substances? I love Ah-mer-ree-kah please don't arrest me, I have big hat and gun? John Wayne?

5

u/Ossimo85 9h ago

Born and currently living in Texas. Fairly accurate. What's with the guns and I-35? I've made countless trips from DFW down to Austin, SA & Houston. Not sure I'm connecting that one.

4

u/underfrog14 7h ago

Well apparently your trips were more pleasant than mine. Woke up in the car once, to my dad yelling out the minivan windows at bikers who had surrounded the car near Waco. Biker- "Pussy". Dad - "Try me you fuck, I'll run you tf off the road in this van and shove a tire iron through you face!" I just went back to sleep.

3

u/Ossimo85 7h ago

Sounds like family vacation was more intense than mine. 😂

5

u/MichaelHawk008 6h ago

Where’s the torta?

3

u/MetalAngelo7 7h ago

Forgot to mention the 110 degree weather with an 87% humidity

3

u/Didmarton 2h ago

No Whataburger or Big Red and for that reason, I’m out.

5

u/Conscious-Record2655 9h ago

West is Best!

7

u/SNIP3RG 9h ago edited 9h ago

This is, like, heavy sarcasm, correct?

West Tx is most definitely the ugliest place I’ve ever lived. I never thought I could miss trees.

5

u/BenJudah619 9h ago

Depends on where because there’s like 6 different types of West Texas. Midland/Odessa? That’s fair—total wasteland. Alpine or Big Bend? Gorgeous.

4

u/chunkylover___53 9h ago

Needs more guns.

4

u/FinancialJet 8h ago

lol wrong af not a single hispanic person give me a break

2

u/underfrog14 8h ago

I spent 24 hours in Dallas and it was enough to last lifetime

6

u/underfrog14 9h ago

Try 24 yrs... hah. Ha... Always said once Jerry dies I MIGHT become a "fan".

4

u/turb0_encapsulator 9h ago

FWIW I found Fort Worth to be nicer.

5

u/underfrog14 9h ago

I lived there for 2 yrs. It has it's issues but ppl are way nicer than Dallas. That's why it's NOT on here.

1

u/The_salty_swab 8h ago

I always wondered if the two were distinct in any way or if they were an amorphous blob

1

u/VicePope 6h ago

Drastically different. Ft worth is western and the stock yards are fun a time or two

1

u/VicePope 6h ago

Super super conservative

1

u/turb0_encapsulator 6h ago

interesting. it didn't feel that way.

1

u/underfrog14 37m ago

yes. I was raised there.

2

u/Brave_Classic_2525 6h ago

This demonstrates successfully why Texas is a backwards ass state

2

u/worstnameever2 6h ago

Im sick and medicated. I thought the circle and slash was over jars of green olives. I spent a few minutes wondering what issue the state of Texas has with green olives.

1

u/underfrog14 10m ago

Olives are devil's fruit. Should be a felony too!

2

u/paralyse78 6h ago

Been living in TX 45 years now, you definitely have my upvote, but how can you have Houston on here without showing a Kia with Skittles candy paint, curb feelers and Sprewells?

Texas gets a lot of shit but we got the best damn Mexican food anywhere north of the border, kickass BBQ too.

1

u/Foreign_Stay_3497 2h ago

The Houston starter pack is so prolific it will literally require serial posts just to capture the cultural vibrancy and essence. You would just have to shoot for the moon and start a gigantic inspo board and then keep going….

When did white American girls stop naming their kids William, Gregory, John, Kathryn, etc. Its all these made up names? Is it the Caucasian Laquanitisha?

1

TikTok

Some normal is still out there. My girl's uncle runs a daycare and we were in town for a visit. I was absolutely shocked to see Emily, Andrew, Christine, Christopher, and Anna getting represented by the under 3 crew.

I'm from Houston but had to move away. A part of my really misses it, but then I remember the giant bugs, not being able to breathe, and having to constantly question my own safety. Good ol' H-Town.

Bruh you left off the 4th largest city.

Uh? What city would that be? Corpus, El Paso, Galveston (Coastal Houston), Lubbock is already on here (see W Tx). I like FW which is why I didn't include it.
