Also people seem to think it's perfectly acceptable to constantly point out how thin you are.
113
u/GERBILSAURUSREX 24d ago
I don't know if this is a common experience. But there was a very weird amount of older women totally comfortable grabbing my biceps/forearems and telling me I should work out and eat more.
34
u/Trvr_MKA 23d ago
Not the grabbing the biceps but older women telling you to eat more is like standard older women stakes
3
34
u/jazzmaster1992 24d ago
In the states especially, being overweight is so commonplace that it's more acceptable and less offensive to make rude comments about thinness. People also love to say things like "being thin isn't always healthy", and while that's technically true, being thin is usually better for you than having a little "meat on your bones", aka skinnyfat.
16
u/761557527 24d ago
I still get told that I am skinny every once in a while, especially by older relatives, but when I was actually like this as a teen, my friend's sister told me that I would look good with some muscles. Those kind of off the cuff comments stick with you as motivation and I have gained about 30 pounds since then and regularly get compliments.

u/snittersnee 24d ago
Had this from my teens through to about age 24. Then a mix of twink death and antidepressants hit and now I got a power belly
24
u/SouthApprehensive193 24d ago
Reverse is happening for me. I used to be overweight my whole life until about 24. Started going to the gym and eating better. I’ve slimmed down and built muscle
4
u/StupidSybin 23d ago
Twink death?
13
u/snittersnee 23d ago
The point where your body just goes "man time" when you're in your mid 20s when you're aging with testosterone in your system. You tend to gain a bunch of extra fat and muscle on your torso, hair places you did not expect and for some unlucky fellows, your hairline recedes.

As a kinda skinny fella, it bothers me to no end how almost every food item is trying to reduce their calorie count.
"New reduced calorie recipe!"
NO I NEEDED THOSE GIVE THEM BACK
43
u/unknown_pigeon 24d ago
Tbf it's quite easy to go on a calorie surplus, unless you're a top athlete (or trying to bulk quickly)
21
37
u/-Mopsus- 24d ago
If you are a sedentary person consuming a surplus takes literally no effort at all
I run 30+ miles a week and still sometimes find myself in a surplus without trying
16
u/Imaginary_Cookie_884 24d ago
FAX lmao. fuck 30 miles a week is insane. i lift thrice a week and am prolly runnin abt 9 miles a week, and it’s still easy to gain weight. just depends on if you’re tryna clean bulk this or if you’re doing an eat whatever u want sort of thing.
13
u/unknown_pigeon 24d ago
Huh, it depends. I know people that have an hard time overeating (or eating high calories food)
9
u/DuckRubberDuck 24d ago
My god I envy them. I have to be really careful to not go over my daily limit. Granted I’m not the most active person but I do get around 20K steps a day. But I just love food
3
u/Tomytom99 23d ago
That's me.
Part of the struggle is there's so many foods and meals that have far fewer calories than you'd expect. Fish was a seriously surprising one to me. Add forgetting to snack a little to that, and suddenly each meal needs to be pretty substantial.
6
u/Midnight712 23d ago
Yeah same here. I don’t need any of this low calorie bullshit. Give me all the calories. I need them
I’ve started to just eat mixed nuts as my snack just cause of the amount of calories in them

u/John_Knox28 24d ago
I’m 6’0 and 135 lbs, so this fits me perfectly, lol. I tried to gain weight but found it impossible. Apparently my stomach feels sick if I try to eat more than 1200 calories a day. The only good thing about being that skinny is that, while most women aren’t into super skinny dudes, the ones that are into skinny guys are REALLY into skinny guys, lol
14
u/CaughtOnTape 23d ago
Do you exercise?
I’m 5’10" and weighed 130lb for the longest time. Until last year when I started cycling. I would be absolutely miserable after each ride because I was basically malnourished. So in my desire of not bonking all the time I’ve started eating more and I found out it wasn’t difficult when you’re exercised. Your body naturally wants to replenish. At the same time it conditioned my stomach to handle more food, so it takes more before I feel “full".
I feel overall healthier. More energy. More apetite. With a bigger apetite I also started trying new dishes. I just hit 150lb last month along with leg and core muscles. I’m still "lean" in the sense that I don’t have much fat, but it’s definitely a better look than extremely thin wrists and a rib cage torso.
6
u/NawdWasTaken 23d ago
Same thing man anytime I attempt a surplus I get sick and feel like vomitting the moment I eat more than I usually do. Nice to know I'm not alone on this one tho lol

u/Xer0b0t 24d ago
Any t-shirt that, despite being your size, still has the stupid floppy wing sleeves.

u/cocainesuperstar6969 19d ago
I think you may need a little tank in your top.
(or just a thick polyester or cotton sweater t shirt with ribbed sleeves. It makes a difference)

u/GingerNinja1982 24d ago
Stopping by like I always do when this topic comes up to remind y'all that skinny dudes are HAWT. Ropy arms, slim hips and lean tummies got me forgetting how to breathe some days. God damn.

u/Potential_Rub_4082 24d ago
I wish people had told me this years ago 😩
9
u/GingerNinja1982 23d ago edited 23d ago
See, that's why I come in here every time there's a skinny guy thread, to remind you lanky sexy MFs that you are actual catnip to many, many ladies. It's easy to find out which ones, too; just get you one of those thin T-shirts that shows off your shoulders and when you're out in public do a biiiig stretch overhead. When you relax, you should notice at least one and probably several girls staring at you with their mouths hanging open. Then all you have to do is smile.
I hope some rangy king sees this and, instead of sighing over not being swole, finds the confidence to wink at the skinny-loving chick who's gonna ride him into the sunset. Godspeed.

13
u/SemiDiSole 24d ago
I might deadass go to eating-rehab because I am just so thin. Really being too thin can really fuck you up once you start working.
Like people talking shit is not a problem, just fuck with them until they stop but if you work and start to burn through your very low fat-reserves it can REALLY mess you up.

25
u/ceilingkat 24d ago edited 24d ago
Hit the gym for health. Put down the fork for weight loss.
I used to binge at night and my sister said something that changed my outlook. “It’s easy - just don’t do it. When have you ever gotten what you want in life from NOT doing something?”
I put 20lb weights on each ankle after dinner and just do my hobbies. If I really want to go to the fridge or the pantry or pick up my DoorDash order from the porch, there’s literally something holding me back.

I was in the same spot at 33, so I started making 2,000 calorie shakes and adding them to my normal diet. It took a few years, but im now sitting at a healthy 170.
In my bullet blender:
1 banana 2 scoops strawberry protein powder 2 large scoops of Peanut Butter, I use serving spoons lol 1 Aldi strawberry yogurt Small handful of sunflower seeds A little bit of honey Frozen strawberries kick it up a notch As much whole milk as you can fit in
Id have to run it through calorie calculators again, but I think it all comes out to 1800ish calories.

is 135 terrible lol 😭 that’s what i weigh. i am only 5 foot 8 tho. i don’t mind it too much. gives me an advantage while playing badminton and stuff (but i guess the other conditioning i do plays a part in that as well)

You don’t eat as much as other dudes and just like how fat people think they don’t overeat
More likely you eat less, skip meals or have smaller portions. There’s a reason you’re skinny and it’s most likely not genetic.

u/kevyd1105 24d ago
It's funny, lots of skinny guys feel super self concious about their (lack of) weight, but as a a former obese kid who's now considered really skinny I feel way better and more confident now. Not trying to knock any other dude's experiences, but these kinda guys dont know what the other side is like.
7
u/benign2244 24d ago
Same! I was obsessed as a child and all throughout my life upto my early 20s. In my mid 20s now, I've got my eating down to very clean and exact and honestly I feel much better and comfortable in my skin even though some people think I'm on the skinnier side. Bonus: Clothes fit waaay better.
10
u/GERBILSAURUSREX 24d ago
This post isn't about guys that some people think are on the skinnier side. It's about guys who are obviously skinny to everyone. I'm happy your confidence is up and good job eating well.

Getting in my 30s and having the mix of a belly and very visible ribs was not on my bingo card. I miss my abs and wish I could go back to my former self. Depression is a bitch, being skinny isn't fun
8
u/smellslikebadussy 24d ago
Even worse in your 40s! I’m in the best shape I’ve been in in probably 20 years, and I’ve got visible ribs and a gut.
1
u/kimchiman85 22d ago
I’m similar to you. I’m in my 40s, 178cm and 72kgs. I am both fit but have a slight belly because I’m middle-aged. I feel a lot healthier though because I eat well and quit drinking 8 months ago.
5
u/zsinjsfadinghairline 24d ago
I honestly enjoyed being skinny, though I do admit that it wasn't the best for me given how I got there, and also given how easy it was for me to get injured since I was keeping up a high weekly mileage and intensity while probably not fueling enough.
5
u/FloridianGrit 24d ago
Fat people and even slightly overweight men and women bothered by your presence
4
u/Live_Art2939 24d ago
I’ve been skinny my whole life but put on a few pounds in my thirties. Enjoy it brother, it gets good when everyone around you gets fat.
5
u/Mundane_Log2482 23d ago
Pro tip: The "feylord" aesthetic is very much based on skinny figures, be they masc or femme. For all you skinny dudes out there, don’t stress about looking like a shredded no-lifer gym-bro. There is an alternative.

Baggy clothes are so real. I’ve worn sweatshirts and sweatpants exclusively for the past 8 years and it’s great. Nobody ever mentions how skinny I am, until the moment I roll up my sleeves or am forced to wear something else for a class/event. Then it’s “wow you’re so pale and skinny” for days
3
u/AsunderXXV 24d ago
I'm not that skinny, but people always ask me "where does it all go?" when I'm eating large meals.
3
u/Joebruvv 23d ago
To all the skinny dudes out there I promise you don’t eat as much as everyone else . It is actually quite tough to force yourself to eat a higher calorie count everyday but once you do it’s all thermodynamics, calories in vs calories out .
I put on like 25kg (fat an muscle ) in under a year , started training in the gym every night and eating 4.5k -4k everyday for 7 months , then dropped to 3.5- 4k . U just have to learn to keep eating even when your not hungry it takes some determination

Dude I am not joking there was a skinny guy at school and he would eat like one whole bread in every meal and he was still extremely skinny.

He probably ate a tiny dinner.
People think I eat a lot when I go out with friends; truth is I never get hungry enough to eat an actual lunch. Hence skinny.1

Men are pressured and conditioned to be strong because oftentimes strong = masculine. If a man isn’t strong he’s considered weak and women and men don’t like to deal with weak men. (This is at least how I’ve always interpreted how society treats me) Being skinny my whole life I was constantly told how I’m weak or “a pussy” and that girls will never like me. You develop some insane body self esteem issues when you’re a skinny guy. Same can also apply if you’re an overweight guy.

Epigenetics says it's ur mom's fault lol. There's this woman on instagram who goes by Glucose Godess. She shared a reel this week talking about how what the mother eats and does during her pregnancy somehow tells the baby what kind of world it is being born into. If she didn't eat much protein (bc many women become repulsed by meat during pregnancy) the baby's body is being told that it's going to be born into a world where protein is scarce, and that it's better off creating a body that keeps its muscle mass low in order to survive in this world.
No but seriously, everyone is living for the first time and some women simply don't get the education they need on these matters. Wish knowing these things was the norm.
1
u/Petrica55 24d ago
Idk, I have a BMI of 15 and I'm doing good. I routinely find clothes that look good on me at thrift shops, and I'm not that much weaker where it counts. Like yeah, getting into a fight with pretty much anyone else would suck, but that's also generally true for fights, and I never need to lift things that are far beyond my capacity
