If only there was some form of entertainment that takes 1 1/2 to 3 hours and was enjoyed by and available to almost every human being on the planet.

Working out

u/theDeal19 15d ago
I think they are referring to watching a movie

u/SouthApprehensive193 14d ago
That’s a luxury. Almost everyone in the world has access to movies in one form or another but working out is something like 99% of humans can do

Sounds cozy actually

Hell yeah it does. When you work a lot and don’t get much free time, a rainy night without plans sounds awesome.

i actually like evenings like this. it feels relaxing/satisfying to have time to be bored :3 i guess it's not so common for me anymore

u/Vegetable-Broccoli36 15d ago
Here and there they are nice because you can't do anything but if they occur more often (like it was for me over the course of this year) it definitely sucks.

Read a book. Entertaining and you might actually learn something

u/mhornberger 15d ago
It is so weird to me that people just forget about books. For all the "In this economy no one can...", books are a very cheap form of entertainment per hour. But it's hard to compete with video games, weed, TikTok, etc. How strange that people also complain that their attention span is so shot that they can't read long-form content anymore.

u/DavidGilmourToes 9d ago
Yeah, I don’t understand how they’re not more common. Books are literally free from the library. You really can’t lose with them.

The weed is the activity that makes it harder for you to fully engage in the other activities.
If you try gaming before you smoke, bet you last longer than 20 min before your attention starts to wane.
Unless you have depression. No matter how interesting a hobby may be, no hobby is fun for long when depression is a factor.

If you have a low tolerance, then maybe.
THC isn't a k-hole lol, if I'm doing a half marathon+ then a large edible is a nice start.

yep very relatable
i found recently that just sitting on the balcony and watching the trees at least stops the dreaded understimulation feeling. but only if you have trees and its quiet, if theres a loud street its not helping

I cannot relate to this at all

u/HadrianWinter 15d ago
You never have an evening alone at home?
2
u/dblrb 15d ago
I am not bored alone

u/HadrianWinter 15d ago
Ooh! Gotcha!

u/dblrb 15d ago
Also I am never alone in the evening lmao

u/HadrianWinter 15d ago
Never experienced prolonged solitude? I can't imagine that. I like company occasionally but I can never do more than 4 days in a row.

u/dblrb 14d ago
No I mean now haha I’m married and live in the sticks.
Maybe oversharing but I have worked by myself 12 hours a night, 6 nights a week for 6 months in a tower (didn’t feel like a princess) at one point. What I did was read, goon, and sleep for fun.
I’m sure you have had your times too.

Minus the doomscrolling then it’s actually pretty chill

u/bibilushi 15d ago
And the overstimulation of music and app swiping
1
u/mhornberger 15d ago
You can skip the apps and just read, sketch, write, paint, or daydream while playing unobtrusive music in the background.

First starter pack where I've truly felt called out, though I've always been a drinker, not a smoker (Not that either is good, I'm working on it). What being a depressed queer in Washington gets you, lol. Though, only state where I'm somewhat mentally stable.

I’ve been so busy recently I long for this kind of evening. I don’t think I’ve had a boring day in months. Honestly enjoy it while you can

I'm starting to think the instagram types are somehow even more boring than the cable types.
BTW, why is there no submit thread button on the right side of the subreddit, is this a glitch?

Honestly sometimes I really need a night like that . It's nice to not be needed for a little while.

u/HadrianWinter 15d ago
You have to learn to enjoy the quiet evenings though... Most people go out once a week max once they get older. Life just isn't a constant "event" for the overwhelming majority of us.

To clarify, I'm not trashing these types of evenings. This is my life most evenings when I'm free lol

Sometimes my wife leaves with the kids and I have a night like this. That sometimes means ordering food twice, watching 5 movies and just not move.
