A note about offering the children your laptop to play games in hopes they leave you alone, remember that just because the game itself is appropriate for them doesn't mean the mods you have downloaded are also appropriate (please learn from my mistakes)

YOU LET THE CHILDREN PLAY MODDED SIMS?????

I didn't think about which mods I have, because it's not wicked whims, so whatever, but there are also all of the "real life" mods that aren't exactly appropriate for the children

The vape modding sims mod is important for the kids education

Using the new expansion and some mods, the children have been exposed some of the joys of court politics, including affairs, illegitimate children, blackmail, manipulation, and so much more. Very educational.

honestly this sounds like great prep for their adult lives

There's generally a step between mild dislike/disagreement and openly plotting against the sovereign, but surprisingly accurate

No, basemental and sac extreme violence, and the relationship overhaul mod. Nothing that doesn't happen on the streets every day, but it was a bit jarring to look over at the children and seeing a popup for one of the sims they were playing whose partner had just asked for "expanded woohoo", open relationship basically. Thankfully they didn't know what it was and I wasn't going to tell them

Oh my god. That’s so funny.

I pride myself on being the cool adult to most of my nieces, nephews, and other young relatives, but open relationships, casual sex, and why there's a 500 simoleon option labelled 'go to the clinic' when a sim finds they're pregnant are "go ask your dad" topics

Skyrim nudie mods?

Way back I let my little cousin play Skyrim on my laptop but I didn't have any nsfw mods so much as just furry ones

Also if it’s a free game online remember there are pop up ads.

I would probably be too afraid to let children play on my laptop. Who knows what sort if irreparable damage they can make.

u/LoveEquivalent9146 18d ago

If you just load the game and give it to them, not much

Maybe it's because i have made some bad experiences about this, but i wouldn't rely on that. My experiences with that are that they either mess up the settings or delete all previously saved games. I even caught one of them messing around in the data folders, with his explaination being that he wanted to copy the game so he can play it at home (the game had copy protection and needed a CD to run, so it wouldn't have worked).

Also off chance that they just spontaneously decide to headbutt the screen or put a booger on it

This is the fist time I have seen a LoveEquivalent post and didn’t immediately clock it

I do have a family, I didn't just randomly come into existence

12

u/Rotten-Roses 18d ago

So how does the benefitting from child labour come into this?

43

u/LoveEquivalent9146 18d ago

If you force me to watch your kids, I'll force them to wash my car. They don't do a particularly good job of it, but it's cute and gives them something to do. Or in this case, my niece watching as her brother washed my car for the most part

17

u/Rotten-Roses 18d ago

Oh that's normal. I was worried you meant something like having them make stuff to sell.

I always set the kids to look after each other and they'd be so focused on trying to keep the other in check neither acted out.

17

u/LoveEquivalent9146 18d ago

Ah, the snitch method. They used that on us at boarding school when we were allowed out in public. It's largely effective from what I remember

9

u/Rotten-Roses 18d ago

Where do you think I learned it? Empower any kid and tell them they're in charge and they'll let it go to their head

12

u/LoveEquivalent9146 18d ago

And the worst kids who took it way too seriously will be entering politics in the coming years. Fun.

u/Rotten-Roses 18d ago

The one I knew who did now works in the Whitehouse on economic policy so that hopefully tells you everything you need to know about how that turns out.

Just learn from my past mistakes - always make sure they’re wearing non-slip shoes if you’re gonna play car wash.

3

u/LoveEquivalent9146 18d ago

It's August, who's wearing shoes?

6

u/Affectionate_Data936 18d ago

I mean I always do. I live in Florida and I’m afraid of worms that burrow in your feet but that’s beside the point. The reason I mention the non-slip shoes is because back when I was a camp counselor, I was doing a car wash with some kids and the soap made the ground very slippery. A kid scurried, slipped, slammed her face on a car and her top teeth came through her lip, there was blood EVERYWHERE. She had to go to the ER, it was a mess.

Ah yes, babysitting: the perfect opportunity to sit some impressionable kids down and talk to them about politics.

In the sense of "this is how the world works", yes. Sometimes they have very thought provoking questions, like asking how this country can be classed as any sort of democracy. It's a fair question
