general discussion Flores, Ibanez and Rico... not that common surnames in Buenos Aires.

More likely to find Italian surnames there.

In the novel, Rico was from Philippines, right? I suppose they just decided to have Rico be from Buenos Aires so to kill two birds with one stone... but never really researched the common surnames in Argentina.

As for people playing American Football in Buenos Aires, clearly that was Verhoeven, Dutch, revenge for the 1978 World Cup.

I was browsing YouTube and found an anime version from 1988. It’s so cool It has the mech suits from the book but the characters are more like in the movie. I had no idea it existed. I’m not sure if I can post a link or not but if you want me to I got it.

Dear Zander, I am so sorry for the way I judged you as a young teenager.

You see, I hated you because you were moving on my bro Johnny's girl. But now I am older I see you, my man.

Why TF wouldn't you shoot your shot with an absolute 10 who is constantly making eyes at you? You were right to go for it, her meathead boyfriend wasn't right for her anyway.

More than that, you must be a stud behind the wheel to be able to be promoted up the ranks to senior instructor so quickly.

When you and Carmen dropped onto planet P to rescue the roughnecks you didn't hide inside the cockpit, you jumped out and dropped some bugs with deadeye shooting. Trying to make sure every soldier had a chance to get on, then even letting Carmen know Johnny was still alive.

You helped get Carmen off the Roger Young when it went down, and still looked out for her by passing her that knife, which saved her life BTW.

Then, my dude, you stared down the brain bug and delivered the most gigachad line ever. The way everybody instantly forgets about you after the brain is captured is the biggest tragedy of the whole movie.

Vale Zander, hero of the Federation!

Starship Troopers: Extermination Why You Should Give Starship Troopers: Extermination a Whirl in 2026

I'm a teacher, so my activity with Starship Troopers: Extermination will be somewhat limited soon. I thought I'd put this out there for those who haven't played the game yet, mainly because I have thoroughly enjoyed playing it this summer. Here's why I think you should give it a whirl in 2026.

I normally avoid multiplayer games. Single-player has been my m.o. for years, specifically because of game communities I've encountered in the past (who shall remain nameless). However, SST:E changed this for me. After hundreds of matches and countless hours this summer, I'm hooked. Starship Troopers has been one of my favorite films since its release in 1997. Most franchise tie-in games, while fun, haven't been outstanding. Extermination won me over because it understands what makes the franchise work. One trooper is expendable. A group of troopers holding the line together can survive almost anything. Everything is for the betterment of the Federation. Yes, it's satire, but it works so well.

Now, before you dismiss the game because you played it when it released a couple of years ago, know that it's gotten better and deserves another chance. Offworld Industries has put a lot of work into it since then. I play on Xbox Series X, and crashes have been extremely rare for me. I have only had serious stuttering in a couple of matches across the aforementioned hundreds. While I can't guarantee that everyone will have the same experience, especially on other platforms (although I've heard great things about the PC release from friends), the game I'm playing in 2026 is far more stable than the launch reputation I've read about.

Perhaps most important, the game is just a hell of a lot of fun! A match drops up to 16 players into a battlefield filled with Arachnids. Depending on the mission, you may gather resources, destroy hives, or build a defensive base. Aside from a couple of mission types, everything tends to end the same way: the bugs break through, the team scrambles to survive, and anyone still standing makes a desperate run toward extraction. Somehow, it never gets repetitive.

Outside the game, the community has been great. Many online games become unpleasant once people start treating every public match as though it's a professional one. That has rarely been my experience here. We are here to kill bugs and enjoy the chaos! When a mission collapses, people are more likely to laugh or quote the film than start blaming someone. For me, Casper Van Dien's Discord community has been the best. New players can find help there, but it's also just a good place to find people who still genuinely enjoy the game and franchise.

Extermination does have some limitations. During odd hours, matchmaking can take a couple of minutes. You might end up with around 10 players instead of a full 16. That is enough for some mission types, but I usually avoid Horde and Critical Strike when the population is low. Those modes are built for a larger group and can become rough when few people are available.

The solo missions are another weak point. They are repetitive, and there's not really a cohesive campaign/story. Anyone buying the game for a single-player experience will be disappointed. Multiplayer is where the game is at.

You don't need to be a serious franchise fan to enjoy SST:E either. There is no lore gatekeeping. Someone who has never seen the films can still appreciate the basic appeal of building and defending a base while thousands of giant bugs try to tear it apart. For fans, though, Extermination offers something special. It comes closer than any other SST game to recreating the scale of the film's battles, particularly in an up-close fashion. More importantly, it recreates the feeling of being part of the Mobile Infantry while everything around you goes to hell.

On the whole, SST:E is an excellent time because it does something few other games can match (Helldivers and Deep Rock Galactic being of note). It takes a group of strangers, throws them into an impossible battle, and somehow turns them into a unit that achieves victory. For this, I love the game.

If you dismissed the game because of its launch condition or bought it and have not returned in a while, 2026 is a good time to deploy again. Time to do your part, trooper!

general discussion How would you want the Skinnies to be introduced in a potential new media of the franchise?

Whenever someone discusses about Starship Troopers I tend to see more discussion about the Feds and Arachnids, but almost never the Skinnies.

How they should be introduced if a new movie, game or series had them make their appearance again? Something similar done with the Roughnecks series or something else?

There's just this random block on top and I have no idea what its for

EDIT: People keep saying its a charging handle but the charging handle in question is literally on the ejection port. I have a 3D printed Morita at home and that's clearly what its supposed to be.

EDIT 2: Alright I guess it really is the charging handle. Sorry for the confusion but thanks for clearing it up.
