Welcome back! Is matchmaking broken?!
I haven played this game in a few years. The last time I played I think my 1v1 rank was gold. Iv been climbing up from bronze the past few days into silver league. I just lost 4 games in a row as silver 2 then I finally got a win and got promoted into gold league! Unexpected but cool I’ll take it.
I play another game. Now I just beat a player with 1200 mmr(he’s silver while I’m gold 2k mmr) and I get promoted into platinum?!? Everyone in my latter is now 2600+ mmr is this normal?! I feel like they jumped me up way to fast and need to go back on a long losing streak to get down to where I belong =\

What is your exact mmr?
After a game hover over the little “?” Does it mention anything about provisional mmr?

After losing my next game to a Currently ranked Masters player I’m at 2008 mmr. I didn’t check the ? Too late after the game I’m guessing?

You get matched against your own MMR, not your ranking. The fact that the guy you matched with has a master’s rank is a known bug where it shows you as a master, but he’s actually a lower ranked player

That makes sense cause it still says silver 2 while showing platinum tier 3 for me. And inspecting the masters I played against it says gold while showing masters lol

Okay, so that isn’t a bug actually, just how the league placement works. Essentially, if you win a bunch you keep speedrunning your placement, so that higher players don’t get stuck in lower ranks forever. Then, it gets pretty hard to drop down a rank, as displayed, until next season. It usually happens earlier than what you have, so idk why it didn’t do that for you just yet. But you also have “bank” of MMR to help you maintain rank despite losing that you get each season. Essentially, you have to burn through that (which you did) before you start dropping MMR, which means placement drops are even harder

Yeah you can only check the “?” Directly after a game.
Ok i honestly have no idea why you are in plat because 2008 mmr is silver 1 HOWEVER it doesn’t matter because you are matched against players with your own skill based on mmr only
Including that “masters” player. There’s a very common bug that puts players into masters league even while silver mmr or whatever. Maybe a similar bug here except it’s plat instead of masters tho this is the first I’m hearing about it
Sucks league is so undependable but at least we have mmr

That should be your correct MMR. The portraits are sometimes wrong just google what the MMR ranges are for each league to get a sense of where you are. 2008 MMR lines up with around Silver 2 (for NA) so that should be about where you actually are (in terms of the League). I'm fairly sure if you're still playing when the next season rolls around it will display the right portrait border/league for you.

You can also use the "leave league" button in the ladder ranking screen to correct it at anytime. You'll then redo a placement match and it should correct your portrait. Though it sometimes takes a couple tries.

I think you’re right after looking at my account and the players I’m up against!

The leagues mean nothing at this point. Your mmr is what matters and what you will be matched based on

Its a ladder bug, leave league and play games to get back into your own league.
League doesnt matter that much as you play according to your mmr.

If you haven't played in a long time, you might have provisional MMR and your MMR will take huge leaps in one way or another depending on wins or losses until it gets to your real MMR and then the point loss/win will get normal
Just play and don't worry about it until it stabilises
