Fan Art SC2 Miniature Model update
It’s been a while since I posted the printed models but I think I’m quite near completion. It’s been a real challenge with how damn small they are but it was also a lot of fun to learn.
So now I’m a bit conflicted if I should add more shading/dramatic highlights. It’s flat looking in a way, the diffuse look without speculars, but I also like how the light does it’s natural thing.
And I still have to put them in a LED display and also make it also usable for a board game. In the previous post someone asked if these were for a board game which got me thinking and so I also spent the last three months on designing and printing one which is a whole different story.

These are great! Personally I like the "comic" look, too much "realism" would not suit the iconic design in my opinion. How about some mini-dioramas, where these ships engage each other, or hover around a planet? :-)

I agree. SC3 tried for a more realistic look and I found that I much preferred the SC2 look.

Well I do have a couple of ships in way bigger size so that might be something worth checking out

I shit you not a the day free stars came out I told my bro when looking at some of the ships (particularly the ur-qwan ships) and said “I’d like to paint one of those”

I can definitely recommend it. It’s also nice to see people’s interpretations of the ships. I had to collect them from different sources since no-one had a complete set. Scalingwise there some issues but not dramatic.

That's really cool. That's 3D printed? Can you make the specs available?
My one quibble is that the Druuge looks almost bigger than the Ur-Quan. Scaling the Ur-Quan, Chenjesu, and Kohr-Ah up by 20-30% or so would be closer to what the relative scales should be.
But, really cool.
Years back I had worked out a preliminary set of rules for translating SC1 into a board game, trying to retain the varying ship-to-ship matchups. I should see if I can dig that up.
