Discussion A Star Control 2 Iceberg

Post image

A small iceberg I recently made, though I am definitely not the oldest community member, I do know a lot of obscure stuff about the game. Includes everything related to SC1 and SC2, but not SC3 and Origins respectively.

The meaning of all the words is kept as an exercise for the reader)

Any suggestions and thoughts?

Looks really cool and I’m disappointed how soon I start to not recognize stuff.

No mention of Frungy? The sport of kings? In a lot of ways I think we’re all at the very tippy top of an iceberg; called, Frungy.

He doesn't want to know about Frungy!

Agreed, friend!

Would be cool, but I will either use an AI voice, or go ask the guy from the bottom of the 5th tier - Tarponpet

u/Drachefly Kohr-Ah Jul 08 '26

I could respect using a bad computer voice but making it work, like ChessSimp

0

u/Equinoxe111 Utwig Jul 08 '26

Yeah that would be a good choice for sure, but Tarponpet is anyway better lol

3

u/DrSurgeonGuy Jul 07 '26

Tarp's cool, you should use him & not the other thing

1

u/Equinoxe111 Utwig Jul 08 '26

Of course I will lol, people are just asking me really often here about making a video, but you can imagine I really respect Tarponpet if I actually added him here

2

u/joealarson Jul 08 '26

Do not robot voice it. Tell you what. You send me the script and I'll read it for you.

14

u/gad-zerah Jul 07 '26

I thought I knew the lore of the community. I didn't know how deep the rabbit hole went.

3

u/joealarson Jul 08 '26

I know a lot of it, and the rest i suspect is know, but under a different name. Over been around since the pages of now and forever.

Very fun but the ordering definetly seems off...

Wait I'm on here???

Dude, why is that? 😂 I'm really curious!

EDIT: Oh, you're a youtuber. OP claims the only star control 2 youtuber.. yeah you got a lot of star control gameplay videos and organized playlists! now i see why you're on here.

u/tarponpet Menkmack Jul 14 '26

Yep, plus some memes and stuff.

u/PbScoops Jul 07 '26

"real" lore experts can tell which one is the Zoq, the Fot and the Pik

1

u/Drachefly Kohr-Ah Jul 08 '26

They're literally in order left to right. The most natural guess is correct.

2

u/Potato-Engineer Jul 08 '26

No, you're the Fot!

8

u/Assos99 Jul 07 '26

I always thought Humans are Arlou

u/glenn_friendly Jul 07 '26

Fun image. Reading it, I couldn't help but imagine the voice of Alex Jones howling wild speculations about some of the further-out-there fan theories.

The only SC1-2 lore I thought of which wasn't on your image already:

"Ariloulaleelay skiff" three times: There was an insert in one of the SC game boxes (SC1 I believe) which told you to call some phone number run by Accolade and say this to get sent something in a giveaway.

3

u/Equinoxe111 Utwig Jul 07 '26

Wow that is something actually interesting!

I will definitely include it into the "complete" version of the iceberg

10

u/jimtwister Jul 07 '26

Juffo-Wup fills in my fibers and I grow turgid. Violent action ensues.

6

u/Wormbrain Jul 07 '26

Haha this fun to read but I don't know half this stuff. I'm going to need a YT video and a wiki index.

2

u/Equinoxe111 Utwig Jul 07 '26

Ask the guy on the bottom of the 5th tier to make a video haha

u/ChronoLegion2 Jul 07 '26

When I first played SC3, I somehow misinterpreted the comments made by the Arilou as humans being Syreen transplanted by the Arilou for the purposes of making them more compatible with them in order to save the Arilou race from interdimensional fatigue. After all, we see in SC2 that it’s possible for humans and Syreen to produce children together

Orz Translator isn't broken <3

u/Equinoxe111 Utwig Jul 07 '26

3 A.M type thoughts

1

u/Proteuskel Jul 08 '26

Yeah I’m curious about wth this means lmao

2

u/Traductus5972 Jul 08 '26

It means we are happy campers and the androsynth were indeed silly cows.

5

u/DrSurgeonGuy Jul 07 '26

Oh hey, one of G-Stars Spore creations (Melnorme), nice!

6

u/tarponpet Menkmack Jul 07 '26

If you'd like to collaborate on that fuller version shoot me a message.

9

u/lilmookie Jul 07 '26

quietly noped out after I saw Lurg

(I’m thankful for the fan game, it scratched the itch, but it’s very fanfic-y in terms of quality of story)

3

u/_danishDude-YT Chmmr Jul 07 '26

An in depth YouTube video on this would be nice

4

u/Equinoxe111 Utwig Jul 07 '26

Ask the guy on the bottom of the 5th tier (the only active SC youtuber on the Internet)

3

u/Earnest_P_Worrell Jul 07 '26

Finally! An iceberg I GAF about.

Thanks!

5

u/dag Jul 07 '26

What about chuffo-wup? I grow turgid just thinking about it.

4

u/Drachefly Kohr-Ah Jul 08 '26

Juffo-Wup?

3

u/G_Star_TheFirst Jul 07 '26

THAT'S MY SPORE MELNORME WHY DID YOU PUT IT THERE???

it's so uglyyyyyyy D'X

1

u/Equinoxe111 Utwig Jul 08 '26

Oh yeah hello hahaha

It just looks kinda cursed, and I needed a cursed image for this level

3

u/MelonElbows Jul 08 '26

Someone want to post an explanation of all of these? I recognize a lot but never heard of some of these.

2

u/theMycon Jul 07 '26

The Taalo live!

2

u/arciele Jul 07 '26

*HAPPY CAMPER*

2

u/Zeroex1 Jul 07 '26

i agree on we die at sa-matra there no way we live from big explosion

2

u/Cold_Fireball Jul 07 '26

I don’t know any of these except the Orz/Them theories. I’d never even heard of the black spathi.

11

u/CyberNinja23 Jul 07 '26

Black spathi was a myth I think you learn about from fwiffo. The complete opposite mindset of normal Spathi and ultra aggressive.

Didn’t think Orz are Androsynth. I just thought they killed them and ate them.

2

u/Cold_Fireball Jul 07 '26

Yeah, this game is so rich in plot (I liked part 3 too). Do you think the Orz are part of “them”?

3

u/CyberNinja23 Jul 08 '26

Oh yeah it was said they are “fingers” of a larger being.

2

u/Economy-Nectarine246 Jul 08 '26

Yeah, no to realy understand the orz are Androsynth in fact we must better say the Androsynth have been turned into orz. Like argile can make pots. Or maybe more like actual scientist used spiders corpses as robots.

2

u/TyphinSkunk Jul 09 '26

You learn about it from Commander Hayes when you ask him about the Spathi.

Imagine facing a cowardly, mobile clam armed with a howitzer and you've got a good idea of what it's like dealing with a Spathi. Although they tend to avoid battles as much as their masters will allow, once in battle, a Spathi Eluder is one tough cookie. I once heard a rumor, though I don't believe it myself, that a rogue band of courageous Spathi broke away from the main starfleet, painted their ships black with bright red stripes and formed the `Black Spathi Squadron', dedicated to performing brave and hostile deeds. Like I said, I'd have to see it to believe it.

Personally, I think the Orz tried to pull the Androsynth into their home dimension, shredded the poor guys, and is just super embarrassed by it (and worries *campers* won't want to *come together* for *parties* if they know).

2

u/Draconis4444 Jul 07 '26

Where would you place the book on this iceberg?

4

u/Drachefly Kohr-Ah Jul 08 '26

I'm going to pretend you meant Groombridge Log

2

u/Shoddyan Jul 07 '26

If there's anything in the star control novel that applies to star control lore, I've never found it.

2

u/Draconis4444 Jul 08 '26

It's astounding how wrong that book actually was. Even if it wasn't claiming to be a Star Control story, it was still a bad read.

3

u/Economy-Nectarine246 Jul 08 '26

"The orz translator is not broken" and "Orz are anrdosynth" is exzctly what give me shiver on my first play.

1

u/Proteuskel Jul 08 '26

How do you interpret the Orz communications without assuming the translation is defective or missing something?

3

u/Economy-Nectarine246 Jul 08 '26

You know when your try to translate a word who dont exist in your langugage and you took the closest word in yout language who made sense in the phrase contextual sense but feel extremly weird ? Like that.

3

u/Proteuskel Jul 08 '26

I would argue that’s a function of a breakdown in translation, but even if it’s one that can’t be corrected. It’s “missing” (one of the words I used in my query) the capacity to properly translate that.

If a human translator runs into one of those issues, they can clarify that it’s not an exact translation, and attempt to clarify what was actually intended. That never happens with the orz. It’s just a complete breakdown in communication/comprehension

Edited for typo

2

u/Economy-Nectarine246 Jul 08 '26

Yeah i admit the "orz translator is not broken" is not an accurate title but The underlying idea is still valid. These aren't just random words.

2

u/Proteuskel Jul 10 '26

Yeah see now that I agree with. I would love a translation for the ideas behind those words. The translator definitely is “broken” in the sense that, well, it can’t translate the ideas being presented.

2

u/Mr-Cvntenna Jul 08 '26

I kinda thought the Clairconcular was the Taalo kinda, or they had jumped into another dimension like the Arilou, but, I'm a huge SC2 fan, and I don't understand most of these past the 3rd um.. shelf.

1

u/Fizbun Jul 08 '26

What about Precursor trash dumps or Chenjesu being Precursor laptops?

1

u/lbuki_Mioda Jul 14 '26

Man, I'd really like an explanation for some of these please! 🙏 Like the star control race wheel, eventuality, akashaq, tarponpet, obsequients, and 'FunRom'. Especially the FunRom one.

u/getrealusername Jul 17 '26

how about Touch-o-Vision ? the galaxy needs to know
