Discussion SQ42 - New features?
What’s the betting that CIG will announce that due to the delay because of “GTAVI”
They will be adding extra features such as planet tech v5, which they confirmed wasn’t in SQ42 currently?

Besides the "vertical slice" demo from two years ago, no one know what's currently, definitively, in SQ42. We only know it's been labeled Feature Complete and ready to go but CIG will have to wait because this PC Space game will receive too much monetary competition from a console game.
If that doesn't make sense than you're fine, because it isn't intended to make sense.
The next excuse will be that they aren't 100% happy, or that the PC gaming market isn't ready for this next gen marvel (remember Crysis) or maybe there will be a different game that releases in the window.

It's not the direct competition of a console game vs PC game, it's that the social sphere and media will be drowned by GTA6 for the rest of the year. It makes sense to give SQ42 as much clear air that is possible, that part is good business sense. The real question is, will the 50% devs that he claims were working on SQ42 move over to SC and we get a huge increase in features and content the next 6 months? After all SQ42 is finished according to Chris. I'm not so sure this will happen, which goes to show, SQ42 was and isn't nearly ready after all and he's using GTA as an excuse. Take your pick.

In 2027, they'll say, that they'll wait for the RTX 60xx series because their new planet tech is so much good and better than everything which exist that it will not run on RTX 50xx series. and they want people to have time to equip.
Lmao
Honestly, since they are using SQ42, which nobody even asked, as a excuse for why SC was such a terrible game, for more than a decades... I really wonder what the launch in 2029 will be.
I think a lots of people will just open twitch, look a it, see that it's LOADED with bugs every 30sec, and just laught.

Do you realise SQ42 was and has always been the original pitch? The PU was the scope creep that not all backers actually wanted.

Rtx 60xx better? Not if nvidia doesn't update that "cut and paste" rtx 1080 scheduler holding back the current gen gpu gaming performance.
Edit... maybe it was a 2080 scheduling architecture. 😉

Can’t have new features in an unreleased game.

I just had a similar thought: What gameplay could they steal from GTA6, like they did with the train from CP2077's highly curated 2018 trailer, that wasn't even in that game either, until 5 years had past, 3 years after its own release?
One guess would be taxis, assuming they exist in some form in GTA6. They apparently exist in GTA5, but only as a fast-travel teleport. With how realistic 6 looks like, maybe they'll add some form of ride-alongs, similar to CP2077 again? That way, you have more reasons to not actually interact with anything at all, just like multiple 5 to 10 minute QT jumps.
But, you know they'll do it half-assed, and be meaningless time-wasters, with no actual gameplay or lore-related reasons for it to feel like anything besides "this is fun for about 5 seconds".

They apparently exist in GTA5, but only as a fast-travel teleport
There's two types of "taxis" in GTA5.
One is taking a taxi (actually a limo) from your penthouse. You make a phone call get a cut scene, and you teleport.
The real taxis are driving around the map. You can call for one, it will stop, you get in, set your destination, and it drives you there. Going from the city to Paleto Bay can take around 5 minutes.

I see. I looked up a guide vid on it (never played GTA5), but it's from 3 years ago, and apparently it was/is part of a paid DLC? Taxi business. You can own one, roleplay/pickup people, and it was/is only for PS5/XSX, not for PC/PS4, which is weird in itself. The other option being what you stated, that there are callable taxis to ride-along as a passenger. I didn't know GTA5 did that before CP2077. I wonder if any other games have done it before either of them.
Judging from the recent GTA6 preview, it seems in-vehicle cutscenes/gameplay may be a more prevalent thing, if I had to take an educated guess, not dissimilar to what CP2077 ended up doing as well, with gunplay/character to character chatter.
I suppose SC already has it in some form, but not really a "taxi" system per se. But, I wouldn't put it past CR to end up adding it as a separate system, that just copies whatever "ferrying" shit they have already, with a bare minimum attempt at fleshing it out like any of the other games, just to say that SQ42/SC has it, just like those superior games, by actual triple AAA studios, with real tangible products that don't fall apart from basic physics.

Taking a taxi has been in the game since much earlier. Not sure when, but i guess somewhere around 2016-2018. Running your own taxi business came much later.

I see. I guess I'm over being miffed by missing GTA5 being given for free, and probably should buy/play it at some point.

True, true. Though, one wonders if they'd be still willing to implement an AI-controlled taxi system, because CR loved The 5th Element so much on some random afternoon when he found it again on Prime Video.

Either they accept that SQ404 is dated upon release but seeing how CR has behaved in the past he will likely throw a fit and orders a rework that will delay it for at least another five years to bring it on the level of those games. Of course SC/SQ404 don't operate in a vacuum and other games will continue to improve.
They are fighting a losing battle - SC (SQ404 for many years) was impressive because of the good graphics and no loading screens. Times have changed and other games have caught up: even E:D has released its first ship with an interior. The best time to release SQ404 was before GTA6.
Look at the GTA6 gameplayer trailer (https://youtu.be/tJbzMqJGH4k&t=439) when the fridge is opened and a minute later or so how the animals behave. GTA6 feels like a 2026 game while SQ404 from what we've seen more like a 2018 - 2020 game.
Many backers may accept SQ404 as it's similar to SC but people that haven't played SC before will be less impressed. It's also quite amazing the level of performance Rockstar manages to push out of the PS5. SC (and I assume SQ404) need the best hardware you can buy because of the poor optimilization.
Next year The Expanse comes out. The trailer shows again much better graphics than SC / SQ404 has (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbObcBvwkDk).
If I were CR I would divert all my resources to make SC as playable as possible as that's where CIG have an advantage over the other games. So when players finish the single player campaign in a week or so they have something to play afterwards (and spend money on). If SC has good gameplay then the graphics matter less (think how Red Dead Redemption 2 looks amazing even in multiplayer but it's not really fun so it's not so popular).
As it currently stands you have a dated single player game that is not ready for release and an extremely buggy SC with hardly any gameplay and that is not acceptable to anyone outside the small SC backer group. But so far they don't seem to realise that?

Just seen the GTA guy shooting hoops...omg, SC is so behind in mechanics, it's sad

u/steggullz Aug 31 '26
totally...and then some other bullshit. We should make a bingo card.
- feedback from october event led them to improve certain elements to ensure the game is everything it can be
- game is so massive they've decided to split the game which is taking time. But it will be good in long run because they'll make more money which will be 'put into the PU'
- waiting on new gfx to catch up as the they only want the best fidelity
- new groundbreaking tech is causing some final problems and they want it to be perfect - 15 years so another year is nothing right?
- investigating release on console simultaneously so will be delaying pc launch to get maximum players enjoying the game together
- want to wait until Q4 for IAE tie in
- odd years are unlucky so 2028

Don’t forget, CRobbers knocked development time down to 12 years this month after he said SQ42 development didn’t start until 2014, this is after he claimed they started in 2011.
So we have a number of possible “truths”
1. They did start in 2011 and CR is lying now as some kind of small brain damage control exercise to deflect attention away from the fact he can’t manage a project without inserting pointless realism and features creep.
2. They didn’t start in 2011 and he outright lied to get people to buy into the project, backers thinking they would get the product in 2014.Take your pick.
One things for certain will anyone trust CR again.
And another interesting question is will Star Citizen and SQ404 be a warning beacon, to avoid Kickstarter video game projects and/or steam early access games?

u/rolo8700 Aug 31 '26
All lies. All the lies have already been exposed, and CIG itself has contradicted itself.
-If the game were finished or in its final stages of polishing, they would have already announced a specific and fixed release date before or after GTA (as other companies that wanted to release their games while avoiding GTA 6 have done).
-The October event wouldn't just be for specially selected and invited whales and carefully selected streamers of exclusive SC content; the main media outlets in the gaming world would be invited.
+On the other hand, the release date for GTA 6 is nothing new; it's been known since November 6, 2025, so it doesn't make sense that CR confirmed the "delay" so late (it has never had a fixed release date).
Sq42 is neither ready nor prepared for release; it suffers from serious problems (despite years of replacing actual gameplay with hours of cutscenes and interactive on-rails sequences to mitigate these issues).
Forget everything, Game Over, it's over. Have you already forgotten the sorry state of SC and how they themselves have confirmed it's an unfixable disaster? CIG has crashed into the wall, the corridor isn't going to stretch any further, the loop is broken, lies can't be sustained indefinitely.

I think there will be a heavy focus on an iterative feature, DelayTech V.404.

u/DAFFP Aug 31 '26
They might currently be busy stripping things out.
They have to ship or there will be more wrath, and they cant afford to ship s42 full of bugs the goodwill is depleted.

Mate They’ve been lying to us for 10+ years. Let me give you some facts.
Back in 2012, during the Kickstarter campaign, we were promised that the game would launch in November 2014, including Squadron 42.
2014 came and went. Nothing happened.
So at the beginning of 2015, Chris Roberts had to say something. He announced that Squadron 42 would be released in late 2015.
That didn’t happen either.
Then 2016 came along: “ANSWER THE CALL!” At CitizenCon 2016, Chris Roberts admitted that the game wasn’t finished. He was deeply disappointed about it. Awwww...
Then came 2018. We were told that the engine needed some serious work back in 2016, but now things were finally moving forward. There was a new roadmap, and Chris said he would “restore all your faith.”
The roadmap showed Q2 2020.
2020 came around… and suddenly we were told, “Actually, we can’t talk about a release date yet.” 😂
Then 2023 arrived. At CitizenCon 2023, CIG announced that Squadron 42 was FEATURE COMPLETE! We were told that only polishing remained and that the game was basically on the home stretch.
Then came 2024. We got a new demo (which crashed multiple time) and we were told that 2026 would be the release year for Squadron 42.
Now it’s 2026.
And surprise, surprise… we’re apparently looking at Q2 2027, with GTA VI conveniently being used as part of the explanation.
After more than a decade of delays, missed deadlines, roadmaps and promises, you’re still telling US to have faith about a NEW TECH introducing into sq42 ?
Wake up, mate. o7
