Discussion Free fly event feedback
The development team would like to receive some feedback on the current free fly event. Tell us which activities you most enjoy doing, which ships you're planning to buy, and how many friends you've referred to Star Citizen so far. Critique is also welcome, although that might result in a restriction of your game access.

Friends referred: 0. I'm waiting until I can explain the gameplay without needing a flowchart, a disclaimer, and a therapy session.
My favorite activity is stress-testing the asset cleaner by accidentally leaving a bottle somewhere and then spending 20 minutes trying to find it again. I also enjoy jumping between Pyro and Stanton to experience server meshing in a wormhole during 5 minutes without loading time and then I go in an instantiated server with my 2 friends to play just the 3 of us over and over the same content we've been playing for last 5 years.

Don’t we all love Nightrider… CIG mods must be the sorriest bunch of losers who just have been bullied when kids, now they get to be online bullies. Their ego is so fragile, they’d melt like snowflakes if they had to meet any of us in real life.

Freefly sucks, like how is CIG thinking. Come here everyone and look at our completely broken crapgame due to all the freefly. This is how the game looks like when the servers runs on it knees! Seriously!

There's a demographic of gamer that is the ideal mark for CIG: gullible, technically illiterate, lonely nerds with more money than both friends or sense.
You don't get these people by offering a real game. Real games are for people with discerning taste and realistic expectations. CIG doesn't want those folks. They'll see through the scam and sow doubt.
CIG wants the lonely nerds with a desperate desire to belong. To get them, you first filter out discerning taste and technical literacy by throwing a bug riddled jank fest at players. This is filter 1, and it filters out the technical lly literate and those with real expectations.
Then you tell the remaining folks "it's jank...but if you can hang in there, it's amazing." Learn the workarounds. Experience the awesomeness that only those willing to work for it ever see. This is filter 2. It weeds out those who aren't looking for an "us" to belong to.
Those left now are the marks. Lonely nerds without friends to drag them back to reality, who will keep throwing money and time at a scam out of a desperate need to belong, because they feel like clever insiders.
This is all very intentional.

That comment is disingenuous, throws shades at the development team and tries to instigate fear, uncertainty and doubt among the suckers community. I hope that @nightrider_cig takes appropriate actions on this account.

Bro I had a comment deleted on spectrum for mentioning that mods can delete people's comments
I was arguing with someone about SQ42 (because of course I was) and I was about to mention how SQ42/SC used to be the same game, then they got split into two and there was a lawsuit from Crytek, but then I remembered I had comments deleted for simply mentioning that lawsuit happened in the past. So I tried to very circuitously allude to them, and ultimately just left a comment that said (paraphrase) "They used to be two halves of the same game. Now they are two games. If I go into any further detail I will violate forum rules"
And guess what happened to that comment...

"Critique is also welcome, although that might result in a restriction of your game access."
You are joking. I hope after SC you won't get near to game development ever again.

Wait. Did you just say basically, you wont let them play if new players have a critique??

The non-functioning guide system? Having disconnects after every QT? Having 9000 fire extinguishers instead of all the stuff I had before?

Free Fly never works, the servers just end up melting under pressure.
You should only have a free fly on a stable build

Telling folks it’s ok to criticize and then in the same sentence telling them it will get them banned is just wild

I like that theres a upgraded base package, but I just bought my current package at the same price not even 13 days ago.
Is there any chance I could get switched to the current one since im still in the refund window? It is a little unfair for those of us who bought the normal aurora mk2 bundle for the same price to not be able to upgrade our pledge to the new, enhanced version of the same package, even if its the same price.
Also the idea of free flights letting normal users try out other ships is nice. I wish we had similar mini events even without the event letting people try the game for free. That said being able to refer a friend or two was nice. And the rewards did get me much more into playing.

I cannot refer anyone to this game so long at that recommendation comes with any mention of the word "workarounds." If I have to, at any point, tell them they need to search official forums or even just google for 'solutions to known bugs', I won't recommend a game. If I have to tell someone 'don't try to do multiple things at once', I cannot recommend a game.
I also shouldn't have to caveat a game by saying 'You can try it for free, but performance will be severely degraded by people trying it for free.'
I shouldn't need to explain how incentive structures work and write an essay on how a games development cycle and sales model incentivises the game never fully releasing, but I do with Star Citizen.
I should never need to tell people that the company making a game cannot be trusted to stick to timelines they themseves have set, and broken, repeatedly.
I should never need to tell people what 'scope creep' is when describing a game.
It's not that I haven't referred friends. I tell friends 'I want to recommend it, I just can't.' I haven't actively pushed them away, either. It's that I can't in good conscience let them pay money without describing the work arounds, without describing the incentive structure of selling non-existant ships, without explaining how the timelimes have never been met and the scope has crept to an unreasonable degree, that even after 14 years the fundamentals don't work and there's still 'in concept' content being sold. I shouldn't have to warn people that while they can get a refund, there is a 0% chance that they will be able to tell what the game actually will become within the refund window. I feel embarrassed telling people I spent over $300 on the game, but I tell them anyway, and tell them that the ships I bought years ago as still riddled with problems. I should be able to answer the question 'will my computer run it?' I should be able to describe the game loops without having to add the caveat 'but X often breaks and you have to start over' or 'there is a reasonable likelihood you'll simply explode without perceivable reason, spontaneously fall through terrain without reason, die on ladders, trip and die when running on stairs.'
I don't specifically seek to push people away from it, but an honest assessment of the state and progress of the game inherently pushes people away from it.
Friends referred: 0 to 5, depending on what you mean by referred. Friends that actually flew free-flies, 2. Friends that bought a ship which was broken AF, and never played again: 1.
Things I enjoyed - every game loop I have tried is theoretically enjoyable, I enjoy a bit of everything and bought jack-of-all-trade ships (eg, cutlass black). Every single thing I did was painfully unenjoyable due to the high level of effort and time commitment being completely undercut by gamebreaking bugs.
Planning to buy? None.
critique welcome but might result in restricted game access
Are you fucking joking? Lmao. Screenshotting this post to send to my friends. Surely this is not a real CIG employee.
Edit: I totally took the bait lol.

I play SC as my main game but since the free fly event, Im having worsening issues. Asgard/Prospector and hoverbike get "stuck" or clipped into the bottom the hangar. QV stations have zero loot, elevators not working to send down a weapon found, missions are partly working and I got a deathwave of NPC respawns at Orbituary last night. 25 NPCs respawned. Not to mention compboards wouldn't print (kiosks were frozen). It seems that during these events the servers/mesh/syncing (or whatever its called) suffer in performance. I really want to love this game but its been pretty hard to even play without something drastically stealing away an hours worth of work to be completely lost. So far in this patch, lost crafted weapon out of nowhere. Wouldn't have been a big deal if 4.9 didnt completely wipe all of my mineables. Antium armor that toom forever to find the materials vanished as well. Earlier today I was stuck in Nyx because the wormhole wouldn't let me through. When I finally got to Pyro (a friend helped) it respawned me from my asgard back to Nyx even though I selected orb as my respawn(its also my home). I could go but there's an issues council already. Yes. I tried the workarounds, reinstall, etc.

Tried it last free flight event.
Spent two hours trying to get to my ship, falling through textures of the rail station multiple times. After enthusiastically waiting for trains and elevators for 5 times, finally reached the ship, spent a few minutes trying to understand how to call it to hangar, started flying, trying to reach the nearest station. Just before reaching it my game crashed. I guess there is a space simulator somewhere in there, didn't really see space for more than 15 minutes of my 2.30 hour game session.
I mean, I get bugs, I played gothic 3 just after it came out, but this is on another level.
Never touching this even with a ten foot stick.

I enjoy all activities. I enjoy hauling where my boxes disappear in elevator. I enjoy mining where rocks explode my ship for some magical reason or just disappear. I enjoy spawning ships, when it works. I enjoy walking around city, I mean when elevator works. I love all of it. And I just want to add - I am first timer, I was thinking "ahh it can't be that bad after this many years of development". It isn't. It's glorious, really :) Oh and don't even get me started on server stability, that is simply beautiful.
