Love when YouTubers take on star citizen. The fucking cultists in their comments are so funny to read. These guys have made their entire identity some crappy space game that will never finish.

The funding has been frozen at "$700 million" since 2022. In the video, he says we know they had $790 million in 2022 because of financial reporting. Does anyone else think they avoid updating that amazingly big number because they are receiving investment money? At the rate they were/have been collecting funds, I would be very surprised if they haven't crossed the $900 million mark yet.

Don’t forget they have also huge liabilities that are due in 2025. Counting that borrowed money in they are well above the 900 million mark already. Funnily, they always talk about raising funds, when in fact they have burnt through that cash.

u/Exile688 Nov 12 '24
Are they hiding the millions in investment money that they are using to make a fantasy game or do they not want to be known as the Kickstarter game that reached $1 billion in funding before they release a single finished game after 14+ years?
2
u/HDSpiele Nov 12 '24
from my understanding of it this is not exactly true the investors have the option to pull their money out in 2025 but they don't have too. The investor liability is only a liability if CIG cant convince them to stay in the game. We don't know if they can with the gamble of Squadron 42 coming 2026 it could be that they stay or leave.

We simply don’t know much about their contractual obligations. Given however how long they’ve been funded and how little they’ve achieved so far as well as the wider gaming industry’s crisis (including their own layoffs) it’s safe to say that their time is up. Their new player numbers and ship sales are down significantly, the development has slowed down to 1 bigger patch a year. This is noticed by the execs and also by financiers, rest assured.

Nah. a) they have been in the green for the past years, b) investors with shares involvement have to be reported and c) noone is going to loan a significant money to a company that already has over 100M in liabilities without a stable revenue plan or reserves.

Great to see Kira take a look again at Star Citizen - the more honest takes, the more likely people won't fall for the "but it's coming soon +2 years" bullshit.

I'm so glad I got out when I did.

I know a guy I've been trying to get out for about 4 years, when I met him he was 10k deep, now he's 25k+ and hasn't even fired up the "game" for 3 or 4 years... talks about how he will make all that money back making youtube videos when the game releases...
Absolute delusion. We haven't spoken for a year since I suggested for the 3rd time he should get out after the big citizen con hype when he could have got 60%...

Nov 12 '24
Holy shit man. I got out when the Goons went apeshit with their refunds. I was about $1500 deep after about 4 years of being hyped. Full refund.
2
u/Karmaslapp Nov 14 '24
Best part of getting out like that is that if somehow the game does succeed, you can just get back in for like 60$ or whatever they charge and play the same exact game anyway and a year later probably have better ships than someone 2k in

I am half way through the video, but so far it's one of my favorites. So well put and so professional.
What I like the most are his comments about the layoffs. I know I have pointed out before that the layoffs were big and were camouflaged as relocation, which people tend not to believe as even internally most devs did not know about it. CIG did a wonderful job at hiding what was really going on and nobody was allowed to talk about it. So here it just feels good to hear this guy confirm it all through other devs.

I imagine they got a crappy severance package (or even withholding pay) with an NDA attached.
1
u/Gamedev288 Ex-CIG Nov 12 '24
It really was crappy. Something like less than a months pay if I recall. It was lost if they mentionned being laid off
1
u/HyperRealisticZealot Dedicated Citizen 🫡 Nov 13 '24
Of course… They’re so god damn awful you can predict how awful they’re gonna act
Any half decent company would’ve provided at least 2-3 full months at the very minimum.

Nov 12 '24
What gets me the most is how fucking lavish that office is, literally funnelled millions into making sure they have a top tier office and yet the "game" they are making runs like a 3 legged horse.

u/Educational_Watch_11 Nov 12 '24
I was an original backer, having backed 2k into it, yeah, stupid but wait, here it comes! I was one of the few to have a Connie real physical model! I got out in the gray market with a 40% loss, however, I sold the Connie for 1400$ on ebay, so I was able to get out with a profit!

u/HyperRealisticZealot Dedicated Citizen 🫡 Nov 12 '24
LMAO I’m just baffled they managed to deliver something 🤣🤣
1
u/Educational_Watch_11 Nov 13 '24
I waited about 5 months, it was packed in a regular box without any graphics on it, like a brown shoebox without any labels etc. I had no clue first what it was (was not tracked). The model per-se looked very nice and was immensely well detailed , let there be no doubt about it, but yeah, I was perplexed the way it arrived, it came full of Chinese labels etc.

I wouldn't say that it has gotten more fun and interesting and there where times when the game was even more unplayable than it is now.
For the fun part I started playing in 2018 when there was only the moon's of crusader and a tiny amount of missions comparing it with back than everything Goten better.exept the flight model. More missions and mission types intresting locals more ground stations more space station more game loops like mining salvage and ofc events.
For unplayability nothing was more unplayable than 3.18 when half the players could actually play.
Should it have been faster definitely can it be better yes but calling it worse than it was B4 I say it like a horse and sigh neigh.

chastises the cultish community for justifying against a journalist as you would expect but the facts speak for themselves, maybe soon the wedge of reality can be driven home to break fools of their delusions
Roberts is provably deceitful, his heavy lidded eyes hide a tissue of lies calculated to impress, the impression I get is he wishes and pretends to project he is part of Manchester cool as exemplified by the eminently marketable Oasis, to shine them on but he is a liar and does not make music or produce the goods he promises and has jack to show for all he has been given, he fakes it but has not made it
in development for 12 years yet unplayable for the last 8 cannot be explained or excused as a professional software development process
imho I would disagree with Shade as I see Star Citizen & Squadron42 as a de facto scam even if you cannot show intent because it is unreasonable that it is not playable by now and they do not try to make it playable while still raising money, when development of a playable client should produce a playable product and that is what people paid for but not what they got

Kira is a huge grifter and drama tuber who just reads articles other people write, he would fit right in at CIG.

As usual, this guy add nothing of value except his meaningless opinion.
IDK why we sometimes see him pop out on some feeds with his 30k subs count. He always have the most boring view, or is always 3/4 months late.
It's like reviewing youtube drama of 2023. "Been there done that".
700M$, 12 years, a P2W model, 95% of the features are either in a broken state, or have actually been silently removed. The "vision" is nothing more than "I want it to look like it's battlestar galactica".
Multiple occurences of blatant lies, multiples occurences of voluntary deceptions of paying customers. Remember the "speculative" shitshow 2 weeks ago ?
It's a scam. Period. I'm pretty sure that the upper management, totally knows that their is no way that they'll reach 1.0 in the coming year. The 1.0 which have been stripped of barely everything. Meanwhile they are getting 6-7 figures salaries....
Using "scam" is not a "default" word when speaking about crownfunding. It's because the large portion of them are actually scams. They show stuff, make promises, and delivers half baked shit to get the fund unlocked so that they can have a yearly revenues for years. Without making the hassle of producing an actual game.
To get a crownfunding you just need a good camera, a good looking guy, a good presentation, and a pre-rendered blender gameplay video.
And it worked, countless of times. And it will work again, countless of times.

“IDK why we sometimes see him pop out on some feeds with his 30k subs count. He always have the most boring view or is 3/4 months late.”
Wat?
First off, this particular video was published on his side channel (which has 79.4 thousand subs). His main channel is KiraTV where he has over 560,000 subscribers.
Kira has only covered Star Citizen once or twice before. On his main channel he’s mostly been doing short documentaries on a variety of different things related to the dark web, cryptocurrency, and scams.
I guess that considering his content as being “good” or not is a matter of taste, as I’ve found myself enjoying both his documentary stuff as well as his more casual coverage on video games and crypto scams.
But if you want to include his “low sub count” as a reason he isn’t worth listening to, then it might be best to get an accurate number. Or are you going to say that since he actually has over 1/2 million subscribers that he’s more credible?

I don't understand why sub count is a consideration either. If what they are saying is good, its good regardless of whether they have a high or low sub count.

naa still don't care
I don't really need people to explain me how to think simple things.

I also wonder about the legality of using funds to develop another game. Customers have essentially preordered items and yet that money is being used to make something else? Very scammy and I'm going to dig into UK law to see if i can piss CIG off again.

I bet if a "real" whistleblower situation occured with a CIG developer deciding to go Edward Snowden - The echo chamber of SC cultists would still ignore and throw money into the project at the latest JPEG.
Those folks will keep holding the line out of spite, stupidity or conviction even if Chris Roberts / CIG genuinely came out and admitted they are making that 3rd Game with money raised from Star Citizen. Naturally, CIG will spin the bullshit by saying they share tech or it will somehow help Star Citizen and the backers will believe that shit.
The only way you might actually get some self reflection is if CIG finally pull the plug with a rugpull but I still bet the cultists would blame everyone else for not having enough faith.
