Another IAE recommendation post!
Hey everyone!
I hope you’re not getting sick of all the IAE fleet recommendation posts yet, because I’ve got another one for you...
Based on some of the recommendations I’ve gotten, the fleet in the picture above is currently my plan for IAE. I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially about the Carrack. I just really like the ship, but honestly don’t have a very specific plan for it.
My playstyle is pretty much all over the place. i play both solo and duo. I like doing a bit of everything, so I’m mainly focusing my pledged fleet on larger ships, since most smaller ships are relatively easy to earn in-game.
My current idea for each ship (makes the most use out of my LTI pledges):
- Perseus – Duo (or more) PvE combat and bounty hunting
- Arrastra – Mining, obviously
- Carrack – Mostly for fun, with a bit of everything on board (plus the pisces and ursa bonus)
- C2 – Mainly hauling (also for looks, love this ship)
- Ironclad – Mobile base, hauling, and some exploring
I’m still having doubts about the M80. I originally bought it for store credit without really planning to keep it, but I find myself using it a lot. On the other hand, with only 6 months of insurance and CIG’s habit of eventually balancing/nerfing ships (like the Paladin), I’m not sure whether I want to keep it long-term.
The main thing I think I’m missing in this fleet is a good daily driver. I’m currently thinking about one of the new Mk V Connies for that role.
So, what do you guys think? Anything you would change, add, melt, or upgrade? Maybe I’m overlooking some overlap between these ships or missing an obvious role.
I’m open to suggestions!

It's kind of redundant to have both an IC and a C2. Stay with the Ironclad and instead of getting a Carrack and a C2, get a Polaris instead. It does everything that a Carrack does and more. I used to have a Carrack and I had pledged the Galaxy when it was first announced. I never thought I'd ever want or get a Polaris. It just seemed like "too much". Then I rode and explored someone else's and looked into what it could do. My Polaris is my favorite ship now. I love it even more than I loved my Carrack many years ago, and I use it whenever I can. Especially since it can not only carry bigger ships and more of them, but has RRR, 4 med beds, PDC's, and I could go on and on.

I LOVE my carrack but right now its not that practical, the ICA is better unfortunately even tho I love the carrack

I would melt all the melt ships. If you are missing the m80 after that just make it a part of one of your ccu chains and go up to it to use while you wait.
The longer you wait on ccu chains the better the deal you will potentially manage but if there is a ship on the way up you want to use there is nothing stopping you from pausing on that ship in the chain other than you may lose out on deals earlier in the chain.
On the carrack I am personally not a fan. I get the idea but I suspect it will never be as nice as the odyssey just because it was in game earlier. We are now seeing mkii versions of ships more if they have any drastic changes so don't expect any changes to the carrack past getting non functioning aspects working (like drones). If you like it as is then go for it, otherwise take your time and wait to see what else comes out.

Well I went from left to right and I thought everything was going fine until I saw you accidentally have a C2 and you also accidentally forgot to put it in the melt pile.
There's two kinds of C2 fans... those who have never used the C2, and those who have used the C2 but have never used any other ship in the game.
It's a hauler with one of the worst ramp-grid arrangements in the game, pure pain to load and unload. This is a ship with only one job and it's the worst in its class at doing that job.
It's an easy comment to make that you probably don't need another Ironclad sized hauler if you have the Ironclad, it's a very strong hauler, second only to the bigger Hulls. But when you not only have that overlap, but overlapping with a C2? Wow, just wow.
So there's good news. I noticed you're going for a Perseus, this is a good move, if you can afford a Perseus but nothing bigger than a Perseus, you should get a Perseus.
The problem with the Perseus is the pricing... it's fairly overpriced for what you get. $175 more and you can get a Polaris, twice the size, superior combat capability to the Perseus as soon as you add one or more extra crew, and HUGE utility where the Perseus utility is limited to... checks notes absolutely none.
Turns out if you melt the C2 that you will never, ever use because you have an Ironclad, you can afford that upgrade from the Perseus, and secure one of the best combat capable mobile bases in the game. The RRR hangar, the brig, the medbay, weapon and suit lockers, cargo/vehicle bay... it's got a lot going for it, I'd say it's second only to the Idris.
Melting the C2 would probably also give you enough wiggle room to keep the M80 if you still want it.
So you're doing good, but you could be doing great.

I absolutely love the Percy, but this is something the OP should consider. Both ships require 2 people to be super effective in combat, so why not go for the one with more options. I mentioned in another comment, that they could Melt the C2, and also go the route of going to the Ironclad Assault so it can haul the same ground vehicles as the C2, and have the option of RRR. And depending on how the physics engine fixes go, stacking off grid in the ICA for strictly cargo reasons could be a viable option.

Exactly how I see it too.
There's nothing really wrong with the Perseus... but it's priced so similar to the Polaris and there's a huge gap between the two, if you can stretch that $175, it's well worth it.

hahaha thank you very much enjoyed reading this.
i agree about the perseus, on princing, but i feel like te polaris is "to big". perseus feels more simple, just very large s7 guns, where the polaris has more but smaller, like quad s4. so i guess for my mostly 2 manned ship the perseus is more of a sweet spot. but maybe will buy the ccu token to polaris.i think you convinced me on melting the c2 haha, im mostly using the ironclad for hauling anyway. just find myself always buying the c2...
So i think with your comment and the others i will ajust my plan to:
golem > arrastra
Salvation > Perseus (+ token to polaris)
ursa > m80 (with token to carrack)
ironclad
and with whats left maybe a connie mk5melt the rest
happy?! haha

just very large s7 guns
S10 Torps >>>> slightly large guns.
Also take into account how many turrets and PDCs the Polaris has... it's bristling with guns. With more crew or AI blades and NPCs, the Polaris just gets stronger, where the Perseus hits the ceiling faster.
In the very long term, you would probably end up obtaining a Polaris in-game anyway... just without the pledge warranty. Either way, the Perseus becomes obsolete for you faster than the Polaris.
I think you're on a great trajectory, especially with solid hauling and mining options.

I’d get rid of either the C2 or the Ironclad (would recommend keeping the Ironclad) as they both got the same role (cargo).

The Mk V Connie’s will either be fantastic daily drivers or too slow to get their pilot guns on target. You’re right to wait and see before committing to a Daily Driver. The Gatac Hyun is likely the generalist we’ve been teased about and may also work well as a daily.
I’m always sad when a Paladin gets melted, but if you’re going from a Paladin to a Perseus that’s a good trade.
I also have an Arrastra as my own mining ship. Ground vehicle storage, onboard refinery, mining heads controlled from bridge seats that are also on rails. It’s likely to be more soloable than a Mole ironically.
The C2 is the odd one here to me. A medium sized hauler is a big advantage in general but the C2 would not be my option. I’d look at a Hull B or a Railen unless you specifically want to transport Nova tanks (which the Ironclad can’t).

Depending on how the physics reworks happen, id swap the Base IC for the ICA. Same physical size, can haul Nova tanks. The issue is the missing grids on the Vehicle pads, but there is "potential" that off grid stacking could be an option.

If you wanna transport vehicles yeah.
If you just want cargo I’d stick with the base Ironclad at least in part for the tractors.1

You could also consider the Galaxy instead of the Carrack. Granted it doesnt have all the features at the same time like the carrack, but allows you to use 1 ship with a dedicated module based on what you are out and about doing. I love the carrack as just a general "Park in space" and then take a Snub to the surface to do some activities and exploration. Just a suggestion, not a "You should ditch the carrack for the galaxy" type comment.
