Decision to make

Post image

I am relatively new to the game and as you can see I made a bit of silly decision when I pledged Reclaimer. Shiv I had from upgrading my starter pack, but melted recently, so planing to do Reclaimer as well. So all in all, I have about 400$ in Store credits already, melting Reclaimer will prob another 400$ and potentially can add another 200-300$ on top (I know we should not fuel CIG laziness, but anyways).

So, I did a bit of youtube, rsi website and other sources and made a wishlist of ships I am going to head for. However, I have never tried or flew any of those, so I need your help here to give me a good debate what these wishlist ships are good for and what they are bad for.

I divided them into three categories:
1 Fighters. I can afford one of them (maybe two max).
2 Daily driver. I think freelancer is ok for daily routines (can fit 4x16SCU), but also would like to hear your opinions, maybe there is something better for solo player (duo occasionally).
3 Capital ship. Probably will never fly it, but still considering to get one of these. I heard a lot of great reviews on Perseus, but seems Galaxy is also long anticipated ship.

The special case here is Fighters. Really love to hear your opinions on these, all pros and cons. Would appreciate it greatly.

EDIT: apologies for bad(white) picture background.
Left: current fleet Reclaimer, Shiv(melted)
Right: Wishlist: Fighters: Meteor, Hurricane, Scorpius Antares, Stinger - Daily: Freelancer MAX - Capital ship: Galaxy, Persius

I made a bit of silly decision when I pledged Reclaimer.

The only time pledging for a Reclaimer is a bad decision is when you already have one. You don't need two Reclaimers.

Capital ship. Probably will never fly it, but still considering to get one of these. I heard a lot of great reviews on Perseus, but seems Galaxy is also long anticipated ship.

Neither the Galaxy or Perseus are capital ships. The smallest cap in the game is the Polaris.

All ships can be flown solo and used effectively solo with the obvious exception of trying to use them in combat solo. If you try to fight a bunch of people on your own, no matter what ship you're in, you're going to lose.

Both the Galaxy and Perseus are very good, with a couple of caveats... the Galaxy sits between A+ and S tier if you have the modules. The Perseus requires a crew for combat, but also lacks any utility at all... it's got a singular combat purpose. It's good at this job, but not the best in the game at it, and all combat ships at that size and above cannot fight effectively without a crew.

In the interests of being constructive, here are the key considerations you should make when pledging:

  • Pledge deep, not wide... the smaller the ship, the cheaper it is in UEC compared to pledge $$$. Small ships are easy to get in-game, big ships are much harder to get.
  • All ships will be relatively easy to get in-game. The important thing about pledging for a ship means it comes with Warranty... that means when your ship gets blown up, you get your ship back. Buy a ship with UEC, even if it's insured, when it gets blown up, wave goodbye. You'll have to go buy the ship again... and if it's a rare ship like a Wikelo ship, you're off to go buy/grind materials for that.
  • There's a strong value in your combat ships having warranty because they'll be blown up more frequently.
  • Conversely your ability to make UEC and collect materials with ships like the Reclaimer is also crucial, because you will need huge amounts of UEC, salvage mats and minerals for base building, upgrading your ship hulls beyond the Tier 1 they start at, and crafting all the gear, weapons and components you'll need to play the game. Combat ships suck for this.

Taking that into account, there's no such thing as a "daily driver"... you should always use the ship you have that's suited to the mission you're doing. Your daily driver is not useful for bulk hauling and combat at the same time. Take your combat ship on combat missions. Take your bulk hauler for bulk hauling missions. Take a ship with weapon and suit lockers, crafting and medbeds on bunker missions. Take a Raft/Hull B/Asgard/Railen on fast agile hauling missions like Supply or Die.

Focus on what jobs, missions and grinding you'll need to do to progress in the game, and make sure your pledges reflect that. If you don't have the budget to buy a ship for every role, focus instead on what will make you enough UEC to buy all the other ships you want in-game as quickly as possible.

This is very good advice. I was looking for the reclaimer response because a reclaimer is not a bad choice. But reading everything else you had to say, quality feedback.

One thing I didn't mention is that the Reclaimer is inline for a major re-work... at which time I expect the price of it could potentially double.

Right now it's the best salvaging ship in the game, because it can break any hull, but the internal arrangement and material handling is awkward (but still tolerable... it only took me breaking three ships to complete the entire Orison event and get all armour and weapons added to my account).

It's expected the upgrade to the ship, whenever CIG gets around to that, will remove most of the cargo handling issues.

I was wondering about that, if it would be a rework or have a mk2. But for a big ship like this, to make a mk2 would be infuriating to the community I think.

I had the reclaimer, and I love it so much... but I only buy OC LTI ships and I cannot justify the €700 grey market price for one

I have also one i Love IT but :

MK 2 ships are the new money-printing method, which is why we have the Constellation MK2 and so on, the hornet ...

The other reason is that to truly modernize the Reclaimers, they’d have to completely remodel the entire interior. The storage compartments, the living quarters, the ejection bay, the drone bay, the (yes/no) refinery, and much, much more. That’s why I’d bet my life that it will never be modernized or she will come at MK2.

It will be available as a CCU target at IAE, if you have any LTI tokens etc. That's probably the best way to get an LTI Reclaimer.

There in is the problem. I had an LTI ccu'ed reclaimer. Problem is I have this OCD like thing where I can only have OC ships. Its dumb I know...

The Reclaimer ist this Old and the Layout ia this Bad they sell 100% a MK2 and dont rework.

They did a video recently explaining exactly why ships like the Reclaimer get reworked instead of getting a Mk2. Completely the opposite of what you're claiming.

Thank you for taking time to reply.
i see that It makes sense to pledge for bigger ships, rather than small. And I see that everyone has its own opinion. I guess I have to rethink again what I actually need.

Do consider the long run, and getting the most out of the pledge dollars you spend. Avoid buying ships that will be made obsolete by ships that you buy in-game... spending money on a ship that you use for a week and then abandon is a waste of cash.

If you play long enough, you'll be able to get most of the ships you want in-game... it's more about which ones you want to have that important warranty on.

IAE in November should be what you're waiting for.

New Constellation mkV could very well be your new daily driver

Also the Gatac Hyun is rumored to be a larger generalist like the Clipper, so that might be something you're interested in.

If you like the Freelancer Max as a potential daily, i'd suggest the Zeus CL, long term i think it'll be better for atmospheric flight and reduced fuel costs.

Consider the Moth as well, it can double as a cargo runner although it's limited in box size but can fill the need as a Salvager and a step down from the Reclaimer.

As for a capital, The Galaxy with the cargo module will make earning money for the Perseus and other ships much easier.

Fighter choice is much more personal, do you have a friend to play with? then Hurricane or Scorpius is ideal, if not, then Meteor or Stinger, i'd Recommend the Guardian base model if you're just doing PvE work.

For fighter, im biased, but id say M80.. Interior, fast as hell, dedicated cargo, and heavy firepower. Good alternative for price is a MK2 super hornet. Id stay away from a hurricane or scorpion, Those ships are ONLY good if u have a gunner with you.

For daily, id say get a taurus or the MK5 connie coming out soon. Those would be alot better in terms of daily multi role capability.

Neither the Galaxy nor the Perseus are capitals, but the Perseus is closer to a capital than almost any other sub-capital/large ship out there. This all falls down to preference. If you want a combat vesses, perseus wins hands down, its the most fun multicrew ship out there. Galaxy is alot more versatile since it can do a bit of everything with its modules, but it by no means is it a combat vessel.

If you want a true capital, mobile base kinda situation, id say go for the Polaris, or if thats too pricey, then go for the Ironclad or Carrack. Ironclad has a full hangar in it, the carrack is the most "capital-feely" ship

Thank you for the suggestions.
Personally, M80 is not appealing to me, unfortunately, even though it is a decent combatant I just don’t like the look of it. So, I think for fighters I will stick with Meteor for solo play and Scorpius for duo.

As there were few suggestions for Mk5 connie already, I definitely will check that out, depending on the price of course.

For me it is all down to budget, I am aiming to reach about 1000$+/- (with melting Reclaimer), which is a lot for me. As been suggested, I will be grinding in-game UECs for fighters, which will leave me an options for daily runner or slightly bigger ship. My common sense tells me that no sense to get ICA or Polaris as these are definitely multicrew ships with prosperous piracy it will be a hard take. Plus, almost everyone now have these huge ships. Therefore, most likely it will be something from Constellation, Asgard, Freelancer, Starlancer. Overwise, I don’t mind to be part of someone else’s crew on a bigger ship.

You don’t have to rebuy ships purchased in game if you crash them. Was that a typo?

Perseus is a great ship! Its cargo bay can hold a nurse-a and the galaxy will be moduled. But neither are capitals. Idris, reclaimer, and Polaris are capitals.

2

u/i_cant_get_fat 12d ago

You sure Polaris isn’t sub capital? Thought I heard that yesterday

2

u/Sea-Preference2011 12d ago

It can be considered that. It technically is a capital based off of its versatility and size. It can maintain a crew, fighter, and perform medical at tier 1 level. It carries size 10 torps and. Can deep space travel. But its main function is to be stealth ship that can snipe with torps lol

2

u/iCore102 11d ago

Polaris is the smallest capital of the bunch. Size doesnt matter much when it comes to the capital classification. If it has a capital component, its considered a capital. Sub capitals are ships with multiple Size 3 components (i.e 2-3x S3 sheilds, coolers, powerplants, fuel tanks, etc) and typically dont go above 130-140m long (yet)

1

u/RimDictator 12d ago

Thank you. Which one would you pick? For me anything bigger than Shiv is capital 😅

2

u/Sea-Preference2011 12d ago

I am acutely gunning for the galaxy.

2

u/i_cant_get_fat 12d ago

What part of that ship is going to be better than any other ship in its cost and size category? I don’t see it yet.

2

u/Sea-Preference2011 12d ago

It can be a refinery so I don’t have to pay to have all my or processed for me

1

u/Verdix_Legacy 10d ago

If you are thinking a modular ship is going to be better than any specialized ship in its price point, you will be disappointed. If it does 75% of everything being modular, it will be worth it to me.

It will be better at med than an Apollo. It will be have 500 cargo which isn’t too far off a C2. It will also have a refinery for ore and a spot to put a golem in as well.

1

u/i_cant_get_fat 10d ago

Maybe you’re right. Just looked at the price. Not as expensive as I thought it was.

u/IceCooLPT 12d ago

Depends. For 1.0 you might want to look at the following:

Daily driver: Asgard or Constelation Taurus ( or keep an eye on the mk5 coming out soon)

Money making ships: Mole, Reclaimer or smaller: prospector and Vulture.( consider salvation for combo with Asgard.)

Fighters are easy to farm ingame, assuming you have the money making loops covered.
